Remember when you could actually PURCHASE a piece of software??

voxel,

@StartpageSearch @protonvpn Not looking at you.., yes I'm talking abt your recent changes to the mobile app to paywall even more features, sure you need to make money, but advertising smth as free and paywalling 95% isn't the right way in my opinion.

@protonmail Not to forget abt you too, paywalling to disable the "Written with protonmail" signature which not even your currence Tuta does.. not nice.

Infosec.space, less / not maintained?

Hey Jerry,

I appreciate all the work you have done and continue to do in keeping your Mastodon and other services clean and nice. I started playing with the idea of switching over to your other Mastodon instance, infosec.space, which blocks threads.net and probably other thread domains in the future. I have made an account on infosec.space and am keeping an eye on it, but so far, I've noticed that infosec.space isn't as well maintained as infosec.exchange is. I'm sure you prefer maintaining an instance with more users, but many people, including me, don't want to switch because they're afraid of staying on a less maintained and possibly soon no longer maintained instance. Infosec.space appears to be the default Glitch instance with the infosec.exchange configs, but things like the Infosec logo (I think it's called that), updated icons, etc. are missing. Could you explain why this is the case? I and I'm sure many others too would appreciate it if you would change this in the future.

@jerry @jerry @jerry (I hope you don't mind that I mentioned all your accounts related to the instances)

voxel,

@jerry @jerry @jerry Alright good luck with and thanks for the quick reply! Good to know that both instances will maintained in parity :) Also, what I forgot to mention, the custome emojis from Infosec.exchange are also missing :( I guess for the same reason?

voxel,

@jerry @jerry @jerry Oh, alright, hope you will figure out a way to do this, I can imagine how painful it is to upload each emoji ;-; I don't have any specific wishes currently, except the logo's from distros and software would be cool. I also suggest to update the logos of Firefox, Firefox Nightly and thunderbird or atleast at the new ones too, since the old ones are kinda outdated.

Vivaldi, to iOS
@Vivaldi@vivaldi.net avatar

With Vivaldi on , you can choose if you want to open external links on regular or private tabs!

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy and security.
  2. Enable “Ask to Open Links from Other Apps in Private”.

voxel,

@Vivaldi Question, are you also going to add this feature for other plattforms? Like Android, Windows and Linux?

I think the new Mastodon compose form looks much better.

Finally a proper "dark mode"!

voxel,

@stefan @Gargron I totally agree with you. I hated it, that it was always a white oustanding box and that also people very often forgot to change the language of their posts, this will fix it.

Hey 👋 dear Linux Community,

I'm still kinda new to Linux (started using this year 😅) I already made it to my main OS, even if I still missing some things which I used on Windows, anyway. What I wanted to ask you guys, what recommendations do you have for Linux Mint (Cinnamon)? In terms of security, optimization, (a way to make the UI looking modern ;-;) and privacy? I would be very interested in what you do guys to optimize your Linux setup :) I'm pretty technical, so there is nothing which could overwhelm me (probaly).

Thx! 🤍

@linux

voxel,

@MuffinJets @linux Oh sorry, forgot to mention it, I'm using Cinnamon since I liked it the most

voxel,

@Corb_The_Lesser @linux

I'm pretty happy with Linux Mint so far, never tried Fedora, but I will take a look on it

If you use touchpad gestures, the new configuration options are useful.

Where can I find them?

voxel,

@keydelk @linux Hm, ig I will stick to Cinnamon, I don't want to run into issues, using another environment which got discontinued by Linux Mint a few years before for some reasons.

Abt the browser and content blocking, is already done ;) Privacy and Security is one of the things I'm very good at, just wanted to know how to enchance the security of Linux Mint.

Btw. I would recommend uBlock Origin instead of ADP is leightweighter, customizable, opensource, non-commercial and pretty well. Since ADP had some controversies in the past.

voxel,

@Corb_The_Lesser @linux Oh. Thank you a lot! Never discovered this lol

voxel,

@beta_tester Could you tell me more abt Distrobox and SElinux? I think I never heard of both before

voxel,

@CrabAndBroom Thank you, but I already covered this 😅 When you check my profile, you will see thats exactly the stuff I'm dealing with day by day, but ty! I may will take a look at OpenSnitch, but I think Portmaster is already covering this need.

voxel,

@const_void It's not about choosing distros in anyway, please read the post before you comment. 🙄

Waterfox is web browser that is built with privacy in mind.

voxel,

@louis @Amerey @RogerBW Old news, Waterfox is independent again and no longer part of System1. For claim 2 I would like to see evidence, sure Google Safebrowsing isn't great for people which is Google a threat to, but besides that there is not evidence pf Google Safebrowsing beeing, only some data is transfered.

voxel,

@louis @Amerey @RogerBW Oh man. 🤦‍♂️ Can you provide any evidence for your-false claims? Google Safwbrowsing does download every 30mins a blocklist, but it does not send every URL you visit to Google. Provide evidence before you claim things which aren't true :)

Threads will collect data about Fediverse users without consent (and probaly illegal, atleast in the EU)

"Threads integrates with third party services (“Third Party Services”) via an interoperable protocol, and is part of a network sometimes called the Fediverse. In the Fediverse, Threads users can share content with, view and interact with content from, follow, and be followed by people outside of Threads who use such Third Party Services (“Third Party Users”). To enable these interactions between Threads users and Third Party Users we share information about Threads users with Third Party Services, and collect and process information about Third Party Users, even if they don’t have an account on Threads or other Meta Products as described further below."

AutoSpill attack steals credentials from Android password managers

Security researchers developed a new attack, which they named AutoSpill, to steal account credentials on Android during the autofill operation.

Link: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/autospill-attack-steals-credentials-from-android-password-managers/

What I would interested in if @bitwarden and KeepassDX are also affected since they are part of the most used and secure Password ßanagers on Android, sad to see that they excluded them from their testing.

Dear Linux community..,

I need your help! So, I have Windows and Linux Mint installed as Dual Boot installed, I got 3 Linux partitions, a Root partition, a swap partition and a Home partition. I would like to expand the storage of the Root and Home partition, I tried it via the Tool GParted, I installed it on a USB Stick to use it as LiveOS and change the partitions sizes of Linux, but I faced a few issues:

  • I can only expand the Root partition since the unlocatted storage is above it
  • I can not expand nor move the home partition and it's beyond the root and swap partition
  • I can't move the swap partiton
  • I receive a lot of warnings that it cuold breaking booting into lnto Linux and break the Grub which I definitly want to avoid, but as I took a look at the FaQ how to fix it if it breaks I just was overwhelmed.
  • I'm unable to make a full backup of my linux partitions since I have no external hard drvive I could use for this
  • I got some much importmant stuff on Linux Mint which definitly would be worse losing

So, how can I safely with minimal risk expand the root and home partition?

How to prevent the Brave browser from saving sites you've visited

The Internet browser Brave now offers a "Request Off the Record (OTR)" feature that hides your surfing from other users on your PC.

https://www.pcworld.com/article/2162652/brave-how-to-prevent-the-browser-from-saving-visited-websites.html

Nice to see then rolling it out! It's not a feature which everybody will find useful, but for some people this could be life changing.

voxel, (edited ) to Youtube

is making the watching experience worse on and Microsoft Edge.

I didn't believe it the first time I heard abt it, since it sounded more like a conspiracy theory than a actual thing, but it's true. Google does add 5s timeout specifically to Firefox and Edge users when they try to watch a video on YT. If you want to know more about it, Mental Outlaw make a very good video abt it (Link: https://youtu.be/v4gXhmzQztE ). I think Google did this, to get people moving to Chrome since the majority will think this is a browser issue, nobody would expect YouTube to purposely doing this. In the attached Screenshot you can see that YouTube checks the user agent of browsers to see if it's Edge, Firefox or not. You can bypass this by changing your User agent to chrome.

Edit: Due a lot of people saying a lot of different things abt it, I want to say that I'm not 100% sure abt how exactly this works, there is a inbuild delay by Google, but who is actually affected, there are a lot of different opinions abt it. I wasn't able to verify this myself in LibreWolf, but this could be the case due my intensive hardening I did and this is just a result of what I found in the code and what Mental Outlaw and others shared across social media, if you got different or additional infos abt this feel free to comment and I suggest everyone ti also check the comment section.

@privacy

voxel,

@programmer_belch Not sure since I'm not so good at javascript, but I know abt several reports and articles that Edge users has the same issue as Firefox users.

voxel,

@Bear_with_a_hammer Ah alright, goos to know. Do you have a link to it?

voxel,

@GentriFriedRice There are multiply dectections and like mentioned in another comment there was multiply reports from Edge and Firefox users that they experienced the same issue.
