I could go down the long rabbithole of figuring out how to call g*mp's image manipulation tools from a commandline or API, or getting imagemagick installed on this PC and figuring out how to port it over there...

or I could be silly and take advantage of the fact that I'm applying gamma ramps to an 8-bit greyscale image. What's the difference between the "before" and "after" images? a different palette.

two of the best feelings when programming are:

  1. figuring out a really clever way to solve a problem
  2. figuring out a really stupid way to solve a problem

can anyone UK-based recommend me a private endo who'd prescribe HRT without much fuss? I had a prescription before I moved countries, they just need to replicate it.

preferably in north of England area but in principle anywhere is fine, the UK is small

do you, personally, associate quartz crystals with war?

(there will be context once the poll ends)

niconiconi,

@whitequark I remember reading a story about Yan Jici, a founding member of the Chinese Physical Society, who directed the production of over 1000 crystal resonators during the second Sino-Japanese War in a rush in Kunming, later in WW2 even US Army and RAF received a few emergency parts from him. I said it was difficult to imagine how to cut a quartz without lasers and CNC. Another reader directed me to that US wartime documentary. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yan_Jici

Please boost for reach: Open source project seeking technical writing contributors.

Ngscopeclient (https://www.ngscopeclient.org/) is looking for people to assist with end user documentation and, in the future, possibly developer oriented API documentation as well.

We welcome help from any interested parties, but are particularly hoping to find some familiar with electronics/embedded systems given the nature of the project. Documentation is LaTeX in Git.

As an open source project we have limited budget (at least until some of the in-progress products from companies using our software launch and start bringing in donations) so are hoping to find volunteer contributors, but I'm willing to throw some of my own funds into the pot if necessary. I can't afford to pay for a lot of hours at industry consulting rates but if you're willing to offer discounts for F/OSS then I'll try and work something out.

Clock ticks (†Horoixodidae; A. A. Koch, 2144) are a now-extinct family of parasitic arachnids of the order Ixodida. Adult ticks are approximately 1 to 8 nanoseconds long, although their larvae may reach as much as 1 microseconds in duration. Since the widespread adoption of asynchronous logic in the Third Industrial Revolution, habitat destruction and loss of reproductive capability have caused the decline of this once-widespread group of animals.

@whitequark The most outrageous software patent I know is https://patents.google.com/patent/US4965765, Lisp syntax highlighting without IBM's permission was theoretically outlawed from 1986 to 2006, but at least they didn't bring that to courts.

> It doesn't matter if I make a dozen "how to disable recall" tutorials. The second YOUR data shows up on someone ELSE'S screen, it's in THEIR recall database.

this has nothing to do with microsoft recall! anybody you send stuff to can have it compromised. you message your high school friend, she gets caught at a protest, now cops have all that data

you can never control the data you give to somebody else, recall or not

The latest TestFlight build of Dice by PCalc has a new Pride dice theme which can be tinted to show a wide variety of flags (all the ones that are in PCalc currently).

I'm generating the stripes on the fly, based on a underlying greyscale gradient texture, so I should be able to use that same technique for more intricate designs that can be recoloured.

This licence provides the terms under which you may use the code. but if you decide to ignore those, uhmm, please don't... you will ? oh, that's okay I guess, I understand. I mean you could have asked... no ? that's fine. it wasn't reasonable of me to set rules so strict on who could use my code, you're right. I'm glad you want to use my code...
