My Macbook's habit of intentionally not using the power cable and draining its battery just before I want to use it while traveling is getting very annoying.
At the least it could give some sort of message before entering battery-drain mode?? thanks #Apple.
@joelnitta i believe there is a setting to turn off the intelligent charging mode (or what it's called). When travelling I make sure I have that turned off so it charges when the cable is in always.
@Drmowinckels thanks! Yeah, I have used those settings. The thing is, I assume #Apple does know what it's talking about when it says it's a good idea to periodically use up the battery completely. If I just turn Optimized Battery Charging off, I'll probably forget to ever turn it on again. So that's why I choose "turn off until tomorrow"... and then it does it again some other random, unhelpful time!
@rejected Apple's reviewers are not happy that my app can restore purchases, automatically, on its own without user interaction. When I asked them to point out exactly what cases are not covered by my automatic restoration system (I even gave them access to the source code and went REALLY in-depth on the automatic system), they refused to elaborate #rejectedbyappreview
I couldn't be happier that the EU is tearing Apple a new one and I can't wait to see them get ripped apart even more #Apple
@nemesisprime Man, for real. Why do I have to make the app experience worse just to satisfy this stupid requirement?
Funny thing is that because I will only end up showing the button when the user hasn't purchased the IAP, it will be completely useless, because those that have already bought the IAP won't see it at all… BECAUSE THE APP RESTORES THE PURCHASES AUTOMATICALLY!
Here I am trying to make it "just work" and they're up my ass about it 😭
@nemesisprime I just read the rejection message again and it includes, verbatim:
"We found that your app offers in-app purchases that can be restored but does not include a "Restore Purchases" feature to allow users to restore the previously purchased in-app purchases"
Even though I described that the app restores the purchases on its own in the notes… so either Apple doesn't actually read them, or I don't know. So it's even worse than I originally thought 😅
#apple#ipadpro#m4
After WWDC 2022 Federico Viticci was very loud in his advocacy that Stage Manager should be optimized to run on older iPads many of which had only 4 to 6GB of memory.
In his recent post "Why iPadOS Still Doesn’t Get the Basics Right" he’s complaining that Stage Manager should do more because new iPads are more powerful.
Which is it? Build features that take advantage of more powerful iPads or restrict features to accommodate older hardware?
@habibcham@dennyhenke the point we’re discussing is also the opposite of forcing people to upgrade, they went out of their way to let older devices work better and now have created a worse situation in the long run for it.
Am I the only one who hates the giant escape key on newer Macbook Pro? It pushes all the function keys to the right, and it really throws off my muscle memory! Also Logitech thinks it's a great idea on MX Keys S. I just got older Logitech MX Mini for this reason. :( #apple#logitech#keyboard
@stooovie changing camera doesn't remove the need for the whole production apparatus, that would be stupid. The iPhone camera replaces a camera, not the whole production. And for sure they used the built-in lenses.
I find "shot on iPhone" a bit disingenuous - people have absolutely no idea what goes into shooting something like that. They expect to get similar results, and are right to do so.
I don't like how #Apple bowed down to the EU in forcing European citizens to install alternative app stores, it gives me a feeling of unease, knowing that an authority can make unilateral decisions like that.
@jo I had a chat with my friend Elon about this. States thinking they know better and intervening like this constantly hurting progress!
So what if our inventions kill a few people along the way, it's for the benefit for all of mankind! There are billions of trillions of humans still to be born and their life and happiness is way more important than anybody alive (or not anymore) today!
@karolherbst@jo Minor correction, your vehicles don't kill people. It's the people who kill others driving your vehicles, remember as long as you disable the FSD right before a collision is about to occur it is the driver's fault
Reading some iPad Pro reviews. What feels puzzling, troubling, and just off base is that the the complaints about iPadOS could have been written before and most were.
So I’m not getting the love/hate with the device/software. I don’t think anyone expected iPadOS to offer anything new at this point. If they did they were wrong.
If they’re hoping they’ll push Apple further at WWDC, that ship has sailed whatever it contains, so I don’t get the push. #Apple#iPadPro#iPad#WWDC
@piotrsikora@mstankiewicz ja też czasem na nim ćwiczę angielski, czy używam do prostych komend, natomiast do funkcjonalności jaką oferuje na przyklad mieszkańcowi USA w USA mu baaardzo daleko.
Ok weird #Apple#iPad situation: got an iOS system alert on my devices yesterday that ‘a new iPad has been added to your Apple ID and has access to iMessage.’ But I haven’t added a new device.
Checked my account, there is no new iPad I don’t recognize there. But I did order a new M4 Pro. Could Apple have somehow preemptively added it to my account?
UPDATE: Apprently this is a bug going around triggered by updating a device with iOS 17.5, which I did do.
@chartier well, it's due the decentralized nature of ActivityPub. What happens when you create or edit a post, is that your instance contacts the instance of everyone who follows you and sends it to them.
If you post from instance A and my friend sees the post on instance B and then boosts it into my instance C, I see it. Then you edit it, and your instance contacts the instance of everyone you follow to send the update. But since no one on my instance follows you, your instance won't know to send an update, leaving the original to stay as-is.
@davemark@joannastern because that’s how it has worked. First we get the weak chips for the iPad (pro), then we get pro/max/ultra in the macos devices. You’ve been here before.
