First, I think Ernest has done a fantastic job and I've been rooting for him this whole time. But it's becoming clear it's all too much for him without the support of a larger team....
Hi, I'm Reuben, the Ringmaster of Mobile Atom Media and Code (https://www.mobileatom.net/). Symfony Station (https://symfonystation.mobileatom.net/) is my latest venture. I moderate the Symfony magazine here (https://kbin.social/m/Symfony) and created the Symfony Universe Collection. (https://kbin.social/u/symfonystation/c/SymfonyUniverse)
A graduate of the Univ. of Georgia and an MA graduate of Georgia State, I live in Orlando. My full-stack developer certification is from the Univ. of Central Florida.

I think the problem with switching away from WordPress is that there is no viable alternative, besides ClassicPress, but it doesn't have the same access to the WordPress ecosystem.
The drawback of alternatives:
- Static Blog generators are harder to use, generally requires a computer to write blog posts and generate/upload the site. No native comment feature, which can be a deal breaker You can forget about ActivityPub support.
- Movable Type -Hardly any community support since everyone mostly abandoned it, requires a license for support, there is an open source version, but it uses Perl, which hardly anyone uses. Not aware of any auto-sharing plugins for Mastodon.
- WriteFreely - Barebones, bland looking, no comments feature unless you use a third party service like Disqus, which can get enshittified and has it's own privacy risks. ActivityPub support worse than WordPress’s.
- Ghost - haven't used this one, but no native comments feature, which means it's not viable.
Moving from WordPress is simply not viable, because there isn't any good and mature options that work for me.Also, a blog without a native comments feature isn't a blog, it's just a website.
I think a more viable option is to create an open source alternative to Jetpack that provides the same features, but locally hosted or uses an open standards for certain functionalities like CDN and such and not tied to one company.
The list of past winner’s of the #drupal Aaron Winborn Award is impressive.
But, it is also quite an honor to be nominated- the Community Working Group always notifies all nominees to let them know they’ve been recognized. Nominate a deserving community member today.
Nominations close March 29.
You can find it in the list of all Jetpack modules, at:

This goes even farther over the line when you consider that platforms like Tumblr & #WordPress have users who write for the joy of it. To take their data & sell it to benefit tools that are being used to replace, plagiarize, and de-value writers... is just a blindly malevolent move.
