And cops are good! They don't trust the government at all, but somehow the enforcement arm of the government can do nothing wrong!

I love the interrobang! Once I found out it existed, I've used it ever since!

Yeah, and I can't speak for everyone here, but I didn't even bother trying it even though I was intrigued. It seemed like the kind of thing that could be completely game-changing and I wasn't willing to get hooked on another Googler's pet project that'd just get the axe in a few years. It's a self fulfilling prophecy at this point, nothing new is likely to get any traction because no one wants to run the risk and then Google cancels it. If they were willing to put in writing that they'll support something for x number of years (that's end user facing, not just whatever contracts they make with devs or whatever), it'd probably go a long way, but they're not willing to support an expensive flop if the product is what actually sucks, so, they're not likely to do that.

Hell, even anything older still runs the risk at any time :-\

It gets funky ... from what I'm finding (I found more, but this was the easiest and it comes from a legit looking location), there is such a thing as negligent fraud in CIVIL law, but even that requires that you to have not had reasonable reasons to believe it to be true. I would argue that they're idiots and should have known better, but, I can't say that I'd win that argument in a courtroom (if I somehow found myself there, lol).

On the criminal side, from what I'm seeing they basically all require some form of intent, but 'fraud' at a criminal level doesn't seem to exist, it's all different legally defined types of fraud.

Either way, you'd still be guilty of driving without a valid license whether you thought you had one or not, it's just giving an invalid 'license' over to the officer wouldn't necessarily have been fraud.

My favorite non-example of this was in Mr Robot. The main character starts explaining something and the other character just says something like "we know what a raspberry pi is jackass" and it was fantastic.

Right‽ The fight for 15 is like 20 fucking years old now and we're still not actually there!

Might as well go for 50 at this rate since it'll take fucking forever before we get anywhere

How does employing a rapist not constitute an unsafe work environment for female employees?

So I just discovered that I have been working next to the waste of oxygen that raped my best friend several years ago. I work in a manufacturing environment and I know that you can’t fire someone just for being a sex offender unless it directly interferes with work duties (in the US). But despite it being a primarily male...

Some cities and counties have additional protections, but at the state level, the only one that's not at-will is Montana and the entire population of that state would fit in a single decently sized city. So, I think that's a distinction that wasn't really necessary, but you do you.

TFA has an example of a fake warrant being used and the fake being clearly fake but accepted anyways.

I know a few people who happily have ring doorbells in their house as cheap cameras and don't seem to care at all that all an officer has to do to get INTERIOR footage of their house is to ask for it and they get it no questions asked.
I hadn't even thought of how easy that makes it for non officers to just do the same thing.

Definitely enjoyed it!

The song was a bit shocking, but fun. The Doctor singing wasn't all that crazy, but Ruby doing it was. Hopefully they continue to show her being that quick witted in the future.

I'm not sure on the new sonic though. When I initially saw pics of it, I thought it'd be a bracelet type situation and that's cool, but that doesn't seem like it's the case and it just seems big and bulky. Time will tell.

I'm locked out of my 6 year old Chipotle account because they now say my email address is invalid when I login. Here is me asking for their help: (lemmy.world)

I also reached out to them on Twitter but they directed me to this form. I followed up with them on Twitter with what happened in this screenshot but they are now ignoring me.

I believe they're saying that Chipotle is helping OP by making it so OP doesn't eat there.

kbin RTR#14 Code Refactoring, preparation for kbin.social update

Today, I started preparations for a more extensive code refactoring. The changes won't be immediately visible, but they will significantly impact the future development of the project. This includes improving the functioning of federation, with a particular focus on collaborative remote content moderation. This will likely take...

Fantastic! It's also smart to address the technical debt you're finding now rather than letting it continue to grow until it's forever unmanageable!

Is that planes that are packed to the gills or private planes that actually have space that people aren't crammed into?

Also, 3-4/6 liters of what? ICE cars and modern planes aren't burning the same fuel, so I'm not sure what this is intending to portray by directly comparing how much of each (in liters) that they burn (serious question, no snark)

I am, I'll grant you I started looking for alternatives because Reddit went to shit, but I haven't looked back since I created a KBin account and have been quite happy with the change.

I know, right?! It's like those people that wear these weird bands to show to the world that they've been 'taken' or whatever, like, I get it, but please - stop shoving your 'lifestyle' down my throat, ok?! Call me old fashioned, but I think they should keep their kinks to themselves and shouldn't be allowed to wear their weird "wedding rings" in public where children can see them!

OP isn't asking how to introduce their kids to the concept of BDSM or asking to explain how they like being tied up, for fucks sake, they're asking if there are child friendly books to help explain that you can love multiple people. Most monogamous folks introduce their partner to their kids after 6-12 months, so why wouldn't poly folks be able to do the same?

OP - Unfortunately, I think books around LGBTQIA+ and then having a conversation might be the best you're going to get from the quick research I just did. At the very least, your options are slim if you do manage to find anything.

I dunno why the movie going public was disappointed.

This movie delivered exactly what it promised. If you watched this movie after seeing a trailer for it and somehow found yourself disappointed, I don't really know what to tell you. I feel like it fucking delivered on everything it promised.

Personally, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Not everything needs to be a masterpiece, occasionally something can just be stupid fun.

It's a free trial. If you flat out say you have no interest in having their service, why would they continue giving it to you for free‽

If you pay for the service, you get it until the end of the payment period.

For a lifetime price of 40 or 50 I'd probably have just bought it and hoped the dev eventually adds /KBin support. For 110 it's off the table for me altogether and I'm not a fan of subscriptions.

With that said, I've never used this app that I remember on Reddit, so, maybe it is worth it??? I'd probably happily consider a lifetime price of that much if Relay got ported (and basically consider it back pay for getting like 6 or 7 years out of it for like 4 bucks).

It seems like either the dev is planning on the app running forever and wanting to not make the mistake of charging a couple bucks for a forever license OR they don't expect it to last and need to get as much $ as they can up front. Either way, I wish them the best of luck. Since I'm not a Lemmy user, I won't be buying, at that price.

I did that for years. Checked usage and found out the other couple people I was sharing with weren't using it anyways.

Cancelled after 10 years.

Sure they might have gained a few subscribers short term, but are they the type to just let the sub roll for a decade straight or will they just watch what they want and cancel until they can re-sub and binge again?

100%, but the Federated nature would make this difficult, I'd imagine.

I'd love a way to simultaneously:

  • show someone I appreciate their comment

  • Help support an instance

  • Help support KBin development

But, outside of crypto, I don't see an easy way to make that happen and doing it through crypto would bring out the crypto bros and mega-anti crypto joe's in about equal numbers, which would suck (plus, who's to say that an instance admin even wants to deal with crypto to collect a few bucks).

Gab is actually a Mastodon instance, so you can directly see what people in the Fediverse can/will do to fringe content ... defederate

The problem is that outside of tankies, the far left basically wants people taken care of and treated like people and the far right wants certain types of people to not exist (how they want the not exist part to happen is up for some debate amongst the right, but, they still need to be gone and gone quickly)

In a practical sense, you cannot really compare the two.

Yes, there are whackjobs on the left too, but they're not taken seriously by anyone and not getting prime time TV coverage of their runs for office.

If we get away from practicalities and talk pure theory, then I guess other arguments can be made, but if we're restricting ourselves to the things as they are now with labels as they're typically used, the far right is barren as far as intellectualism goes.

Didn't they do that intentionally to be compatible with Lotus 123?

KBin is the only site that knows your KBin password, so you won't be able to use it directly to log in elsewhere.

Easiest would be to anonymously visit the other sites and then do a search and subscribe on KBin for the subs you like to bring them into your feed.

I did that to bring my Mastadon stuff in to see if I can use KBin as a pane of glass to see everything or I'm better off just keeping them separate (juries still out, probably need to wait until this server stops getting slammed).

ETA: if someone knows a better way, please correct me! I would love to learn an easier way. So far, I think it's just manual checking and people making lists that they share.
