@historyofpunkrock I’m always struck by how clean cut they looked. It’s hard to imagine those young men in collared shirts producing Disorder or Shadowplay.

Lunachicks - “Sugar Luv” EP

Double 7” gatefold (1989)
Original UK pressing on Blast First Records (Import)

Working at an independent record store allowed me to order imports like this one. Pretty sure I heard “Jan Brady” on the radio and immediately wanted to get this disc.

Turns out my favorite track is their cover of “Get Off The Road”. I played the hell out of this on my radio show.

Also got to meet these crazy chicks when they toured with L7 and Fugazi in ‘92.

Unfolded album cover. Yellow back ground with name of each band member in red text, just below their picture
Back cover art shows a monster character playing guitar. Pink lettering shows the song titles

@Defiance ooo, I've been getting into Lunachicks more lately! Love seeing the love for such great music! 💖

@historyofpunkrock I graduated from a California high school in 1980 and my yearbook quote was some bullshit from Kenny Rogers, and yet I love and identify with everything you post as if I were a punker back then because it's so fucking real. THANK YOU for what you do. It actually helps. It actually matters.

Punk rock was born 50 years ago today. Television, with Richard Hell, play CBGB for the first time of many.

The Ork loft tape is a good indication of the band at the time.

Seems HALF of the groups (if they were a real (productive full time) group were DOA. But the few that were not DOA, were great!

So the slogan, Punk is Dead really was kinda true back then.

Disco is Dead was a slogan at the same time too.

Seems HALF of the NYC Punk groups were DOA

@BigJesusTrashcan @TheMetalDog Glenn Danzig is a meathead tool, but I saw them a few years back with Dave Lombardo on drums (and The Damned and Cro-Mags opening), and it was fucking killer!! I’ve seen the old Misfits public access footage, and they sound a million times better these days!

Also I’d totally let Doyle do all sorts of weird shit to me. Dude is jacked in all the right ways.

I mentioned before that I’ll have to post about Bill Bartell in more detail. He was a unique dude, and taken from us way too early.

Welp, no need for me to write about him. There's a movie about him in the works, "The Secret Lives of Bill Bartell".
