In the UK, I would never have dreamed of voting for the Conservatives, and if lived in Canada, I imagine I would support the NDP.
Nevertheless, this piece, written from what seems to be a Canadian Tory perspective, interested me.
My response stems not only from a fascination with Canadian history and identity/identities, but also from a recognition that social democrats like me should consider rather than dismiss out of hand certain Tory understandings of history and culture.
A little part of me died when I read about those who think that there was a "president of Canada" named Tim Horton.
I think this shouts for a Queen song (sorry Chris).
Back in 1991 Queen released Innuendo, which would become their last album to be released in Freddie's lifetime.
Freddie was seriously sick during recording, but you hear NOTHING of that. What he pulled off this sick is incredible and gives me goosebumps!
@derthomas@HailsandAles Love this one. Funny enough, a couple of songs from this album were the first I ever heard from Queen, though not the title track.
We had mandatory religion classes in school and during one of those, we got rounded up and taken to the Physics lab (oh, the irony!) as the labs had TVs... where we got shown a "documentary" about satanism and the essence of evil in rock music. Which picked on Queen... odd choice at the end of the '90s when black metal was already a thing.

@mythologyandhistory They were making purple dyes out of crushed snail shells since about 1200 BC. It was so labour-intensive that it was really expensive, so purple was a status symbol for the wealthy.
