I learned a character in #japanese the other day that was defined as amount; or picture frame. ๐คฌ
I was swearing at that--how can one word have meanings that dissimilar? How can I remember that?
But then today walking in the city I passed the Latitude nightclub. I'd seen that in other cities-- it is a good name for a nightclub, in the sense of permission to bend the rules a bit.
Or a line in the map marking distance from the equator.
๐คฌ How did one word get such dissimilar meanings??

A mysterious tattoo artist puts his masterpiece, a human-faced spider, on a kidnapped womanโs back. She and her lover are then forced into a conspiracy-born nightmare... #japanese#cinema#film#japan#cinemastodon#movies
I believe this was my first Masumura. Japanese conditions were so tough these directors had to do 3 films every year.
scenario adapted from Tanizaki written by the great Kaneto Shindo.
Masumura +Shindo + Ayako Wakao ! you dont have often such gifted People.
For theme #TheMan, the first song that came to mind was "Tokyo Calling" by Atarashii Gakko. Straightforward callout of surrendering your life to The Man (and if the tokusatsu theming is anything to go by, an endorsement of wrecking the system).
My baby sister is in town to visit. She likes #Japanese stuff (#anime, #Subarus, sushi, etc) and #thrift shopping. What do I need to show her while she's in #Portland?
Our itinerary includes the Japanese Garden, H-Mart, Kinokuniya, Hollywood Thrift, all the #vintage shops on Hawthorne.
What are some deep cuts, super weird kitchy #pdx spots I might not have heard of?
I bought some Black Black gum (Japanese product) from Amazon and got a package with random yellow pieces of gum included. Anyone know the difference from the original gum? I didnโt try translating the packaging before opening it (and ripping off half of the writing explaining the yellow pieces). ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
@squipo@jezlyn I think itโs meant to mean ใใชใใช as in getting an electric shock or a rattling sound, so โintense electric mintโ or something along that line
For #JMusicFriday theme #OldButNew I have something that's more new-but-old-but-new. I got this earworm some time ago and couldn't place why I found it so familiar. I figured my love of hammond organ was messing with me again.
MONTHS later I was searching something unrelated and realized this song was OP1 of the the "You're Under Arrest" 1996 anime run, which I watched a bit of a long time ago. The sitcom vibe of returning to an old, friendly place was too perfect.
I have just the thing kind of in both ways one might look at the concept. Both "new to me" as is the official intent and a newer version of an old thing.
Here is a cover of Kokoro -- a relatively "old" Vocaloid song covered by #Hanatan but a newer redone one better than the first she did that I recently came across: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYpDJkih94Y
Plus just plain a darned nice song anyway.
Still a pretty "old" song, so many may have never heard it.
