I am NOT a compsci geek.

BUT I have managed to switch to #LinuxMint on a 2010 MacBook Air and it's a revelation. It auto-updates, it's fast, easy and the most relaxed time I've had with #Linux so far.

So, if anyone out there is thinking of switching, give it a go!

(oh, and if you're on Mac, you may need #BalenaEtcher to help the process)

@mrak

Oh, you'll be fine - Mint will bloody whizz along on that!
You'll feel like it's 1982 and you just got a fresh new Cray XMP.

How can I hide a service behind a proxy with ?
Like I have @navidrome running on standard port 4533 but I would like to Proxy it behind apache. So when I go to my website(dot)com/music I can reach it (as well with the apps so prolly websockets needs to be configured?).

I'm doing:
ProxyPass /music/ http://127.0.0.1:4533/music/
ProxyPassReverse /music/ http://127.0.0.1:4533/music/

But when i go to mywebsite(dot)com/music it goes to mywebsite(dot)com/app/

WTF?

Apache2 running on

solarbrass,

@ryan_harg well that was the goal I was trying to achieve... but unfortunately doesnโ€™t work. Prolly with BaseUrl in the navidrome conf I can redirect to /music
Gonna try as soon I got home
Thanks

solarbrass,

@ryan_harg @breadsmasher I found I can configure a parameter on Navidrome settings called BaseUrl that allowed me to activate Navidrome server under /music so now the proxy works. Thanks a lot

Today was a normalยน meet-up:

  • Papers' first (alpha) release didn't quite materialise, yet,
  • where a MR was merged with a few commits dropped, because they weren't quite ready, yet
  • we didn't quite solve the future of software distribution, just yet

All in all: Nice pizza with @pabloyoyoista and @FineFindus!

ยน we met for โ€œhackingโ€ and instead had a super interesting talk about technology for like five hours โ€ฆ

Cool idea - #Xebian - a distribution based on unstable #Debian, polished XFCE with nice minimalist wallpapers + Calamares installer. Just why don't we have it on #distrowatch? Strange...

@joahim Seems their site is struggling right now. Would love to try it out.

Looks like they'll have to become Wayebian when XFCE becomes WayFCE.

fedora,

@vintprox @sashin Yes, the actual release takes a lot of the priority, but then other things came up as well that made planning sooner more difficult.

Question for users:

I'm running testing on my laptop, as I have been for a couple decades. I've been waiting for the t64 transition to settle out before resuming updating packages.

I think the transition is now (mostly?) done, but aptitude is still flummoxed when trying to resolve 1300+ package updates.

I've tried to find small groups of packages that I can manually select and upgrade, but with few exceptions pulling on one of these threads quickly leads to a tangled mess of broken packages.

Any advice for how to tackle this would be most appreciated!

tripplehelix,
@tripplehelix@fosstodon.org avatar

@HankB @plantarum That's when you use apt-mark. Gnome/KDE are incredibly dependency heavy desktops and will have breakages now and again. You should still update the rest of the system and unhold the gnome/kde packages once dependencies have been updated.

tripplehelix,
@tripplehelix@fosstodon.org avatar

@plantarum @HankB Using this as a learning opportunity and attempting to update could be good, if you're interested. If you're going to wipe anyway, there's no loss.

Since weโ€™re all onboard with telling off Linux evangelists in this moment, Linux has privacy issues too! If your screen goes to sleep, when you come back youโ€™re greeted by your screen contents - not the Lock Screen for a solid two seconds or so (at least in GNOME Shell, the default desktop environment for many distros).

c0dec0dec0de,
@c0dec0dec0de@hachyderm.io avatar

@visone and GNOME is a Linux desktop environment. Itโ€™s the default on the most widespread workstation and desktop distributions.
But, fine, Linux doesnโ€™t actually do SecureBoot attestation. The other major OSes do. (Yes, you can load a machine-owner key and do it yourself, but that surely doesnโ€™t count as the OS providing it or supporting it)

visone,
@visone@fosstodon.org avatar

@c0dec0dec0de
Sure, but it's a gnome-wayaland problem. That's the thing with linux, you can choose.
So you want to move to linux cause microsoft, but still using microsoft keys in your secure boot?? ....
