I’ve been playing with air quality sensors and purifiers in Home Assistant. Here’s my current layout on my dashboard; I want to improve it a bit more, but I am loving the glancable styling powered by the sensor values. :)
Of de luchtkwaliteit gezond is, wordt o.a. bepaald door de hoeveelheid stikstofdioxide in de lucht. In midden en zuid-Nederland staat het er niet zo best bij...

The same N-95, KN-95, and equivalent respirators that protect you from airborne contagious disease also provide protection from wildfire smoke. #MaskUp#AirQuality#CovidIsNotOver
IQAir sent this helpful email with a display showing the EPA's changes to #AQI classification. I had seen news about it, but this visual representation makes it obvious what the changes are. #AirQuality
Not able to use a typical AC-powered fan, used a 12V car/truck radiator fan, a DC17-55V to DC12V adapter, and a PWM motor module as both a power switch and speed regulator, 4 14x20 inch MERV13 filters and some old 2x2s to build the frame.
It moves a LOT of air at full power (~120W), but very much on the noisy side!
"The report showed that improvements in #AirQuality between 2019 and 2022 from lowering motor vehicle pollution – even before the expansion of the #ULEZ throughout the capital since August – rivalled the potential savings from entirely cleaning up #London’s aviation or industrial and commercial heat and power generation."
"Katowice z najlepszą jakością powietrza od dekady! 🌬️ ❤️
Porównując rok 2023 i 2022 ilość pyłu zawieszonego PM10 spadła o blisko 15%, a w ciągu ostatnich 10 lat o ponad 42%."
Air and light pollution are both scourges of modern life in many world cities. #AirPollution affects the brightness of the night sky, and #LightPollution at night may make daytime #AirQuality worse. Find out why addressing both issues makes good #PublicPolicy sense.
Higher levels of CO2 increase survival of viruses in the air & transmission risk
“We knew SARS-CoV-2, like other viruses, spreads through the air we breathe. But this study represents a huge breakthrough in our understanding of exactly how and why that happens, and crucially, what can be done to stop it.
“It shows that opening a window may be more powerful than originally thought . . . causing the virus to become inactivated much faster"
An unprecedented wildfire season in Canada last year made headlines as smoke spread across major cities in North America. What do meteorologists expect in 2024?
Interesting to see how a candle pollutes the air in my living room. This is from Sunday night.
The top graph shows a sharp peak of particulates in the air when I blew out the candle. The other two show organic compounds and CO2 building up slowly and falling after the candle is out.
"More than 200 chemical plants across the country will be required to curb the toxic pollutants they release into the air under a regulation announced by the Biden administration on Tuesday.
The regulation is aimed at reducing the risk of cancer for people living near industrial sites. This is the first time in nearly two decades that the government has tightened limits on pollution from chemical plants."
