To my North American friends east of the Mississippi:
Use N95 masks outdoors when AQI is greater than 100. And if you don't have air purifiers in your home, get them. Honeywell and Coway have reliable models I feel comfortable recommending.
Do not take poor air quality lightly.
We've become hardened experts at living with wildfire and smoke in California over the last 8 years. You don't have to learn the hard way.
Schools were shut and non-essential construction was banned around #Delhi as the #AirQuality index in the city almost hit 500 – the highest the measurement will go and 100 times the limit deemed to be healthy by the #WorldHealthOrganization.
I’ve been playing with air quality sensors and purifiers in Home Assistant. Here’s my current layout on my dashboard; I want to improve it a bit more, but I am loving the glancable styling powered by the sensor values. :)
I use and like the #Aranet4#CO2 monitor. The #Aranet 4 is usually USD$249. It's on sale, direct from the manufacturer, till September 17, for $184.35, with free shipping in the US.
Outdoor Particulate Matter (#PM) Air Quality Monitoring
This thread explores the new Model X #outdoor PM air quality monitor made by #Canadian@IndianaTux at co2.click, what it does, costs, and examples showing the information it provides. #AQ#AirQuality 🧵1/
I'm trying to integrate some public air quality data into my study. During a sanity check of the data I realized 3 of the measurement columns contain negative values! Does anyone have any idea if having negative value in such measurements is valid and how they should be interpreted?
Contacting the data manager is not as easy and might take me a week or two of emailing to get some answer. I wonder if #AirQuality folks here on fediverse have a quick answer.
Despite all the fabulous rain and storms last night the #AirQuality for our area in #BritishColumbia is around 70AQI. Still smells a little smoke, but much better than it has been. Could comfortably have a long walk this morning, yay.
Question for my fellow Bostonians and eastern Massholes: Have you smelled something like car exhaust (in situations where you wouldn't expect car exhaust) around the city the past few days? I've smelled it on Peter's Hill in the Arboretum, late at night (after 3AM) on a quiet residential street near Jackson Square, in the middle of the Common around 9PM & elsewhere. Maybe I'm having a stroke or maybe it's from the #Canada#wildfires

Changed out the Corsi Rosenthal filters at the house... this is not filter material, this is a thick layer of drywall dust. Wore an N95 and removed these outside, it was nasty. 😬 #aqi#airquality#PM2point5
Well this sucks. The wildfire smoke from the northernmost part of California and from Oregon is hitting my area real hard totally out of the blue. I was sitting around and all of a sudden my eyes burned and throat was uncomfortable.
Then I checked #PurpleAir and realized why. This is supposed to continue for a few days. I hope that ends up being wrong. I’ve got an outdoor event coming up this week.
I'm finally coming to the conclusion that I'd like an #AirPurifier for the house with HEPA filter for COVID mitigations. I'm looking for recommendations, especially from my fellow #NewZealand dwellers, as that limits what I've got access to purchase.
With regard to carbon capture, does this actually solve the wide issue of greenhouse emissions. I was under the impression that CO_2 is the MAIN greenhouse gas, however there are other gasses that contribute to the greenhouse effect.
So by removing CO_2 we solve part of the issue, only for cars, that are pumping out CO_2 they are also pumping out other gasses such as Oxides of Nitrogren and Sulful as well as carciogens such as Benzine, as well as particulates that are also dangerous to human health.
So how much does carbon capture actually solve the problem, when we just need to reduce these emissions, and plant more trees.
