Best way to hook up a connected to an station? I have it currently hooked up direct, but the panel is draining the battery, so it doesn't even last the evening.

Recommendations for cheap solutions, please!

Do you have recommendations for a networked (can get data from an app), HomeKit enabled air quality sensor?

Don't need a specific data point measured, just something that acts as a proxy for "air quality getting better/worse".

Battery-powered would be preferred, sockets are at a premium!

Buckle up Minnesota! We have our first chance of a forest fire smoke filled day!

As a reminder, tomorrow is February 29.

Forest fire smoke day... in... FEBRUARY!

If you don't have the app, download the AirNow app to track air quality.

Just amplifying this post which is slightly horrifying - if you are using tap water in your ultrasonic humidifier, you're basically inhaling the equivalent of 9 cigarettes a night: https://mstdn.science/@jeffgilchrist/111870333897769088

This does make me wonder why ANYONE should buy an ultrasonic humidifier - in Edmonton winter you easily go through ~2L water per day, cost aside just lugging that much distilled water weight home every day is a herculean effort. Unless you distill your own water?

Climate change is amplifying wildfires, and more smoke means higher risk of heart and lung disease from inhaling tiny particles that can drift far and wide, researchers said. The agreement announced Monday surpasses a $9 million deal in 2020 for similar releases.”

Cars are bad for the environment - internal combustion engine cars especially so. Digging deeper, diesels, and, worst, old diesels.

Let's get diesel cars off the roads:

  • Ban sales of diesels manufactured from today. This is low-hanging fruit.
" Bring in a ramping yearly tax on diesels starting with >8 years old paying, say, €1000. Next year €2000 and for >6y.o. >€1000. And so on. Also ramp up tax / litre at the pumps.

Almost every day, I think about this story about Brown University throwing out dorm air filters en masse into a dumpster

Wanting a pandemic to be over so hard that you throw out clean air machines and paper towels. Could not even bother to donate them

Want to reduce household illness? Get a decent air filter.

Having people over to your house? Use a decent air filter.

Have a classroom full of kids? Use an air filter.

They work and are cheap.
