We’ve been making good progress on the build. All that’s left to do before concrete can be poured is install filter fabric and our radon barrier (15-mil Stego). But, rain has stopped play today and the concrete contractor is coming Tuesday so Monday is going to be busy!

On Friday we bought a rock bucket for the tractor which is a game changer for getting big rocks out of our soil before we backfilled.

Etwas weiter.

What's not mentioned here is steel-reinforced concrete structures' lifespan - 100 years is an optimistic limit even for a quality construction. So all this shit will need to be torn down and rebuilt within 100 years. That's assuming that all these buildings in China are being made to top-notch standards which, from what I've seen on the Interwebs, is definitely not the case.

An MNC is the target of a civil claim for its role in . It is (which bought Lafarge in 2015, just after the bribes to the terrorist organisation "Islamic State").

The Cantonal Court of Zug has ruled "that the court costs and lawyers' fees will be borne by the State."

Tired of theory and abstract matter? Our website is the place to learn about coastal sand.

The S.AND website is collecting 'tangible' accounts of ongoing ethnographic research in the Afrasian Sea and other oceans. For instance, check out Lukas Ley's fieldnote on diving in the harbour of Marseilles and the formation of "natural concrete": https://s-and.org/blog/touching-calcification. Over the year, there will also be articles, pictures, and other insights from our fieldwork and even the occasional joke.

How it started… how it's going.

For a friends' house-warming gift, i made a house-number for them. As i was visiting for their birthday, i managed to give it to them and mount it for them (using hidden slide mounts which are quite cool). It's cast from concrete onto a cut piece of bathroom lino. The very slightly raised numbers were then painted (with Humbrol enamel).

(a few in-progress shots in the next post)

1/2

A concrete plaque with a number 14 painted on in white, mounted on a wall as a house number. The grey concrete has a horizontal wood-like texture. The numbers are very slightly raised and have a more bubbly broad grooved texture.

(Mittagswelt, Ortswechsel.

"A Massachusetts-based startup has figured out how to produce zero-carbon cement."

This sounds amazing and it's huge if it can be scaled (cement production currently causes 8% of global carbon emissions), but the article is basically an uncritical press release.

Anyone familiar with the subject: what are the downsides, if any?
