Just sent off a simple Figma prototype landing page... Really enjoying Figma now I'm getting back into it. I do hope it becomes part of Adobe CC though if/when the acquisition goes through.

🎧 New Changelog interview!

This week @adam & @jerod are joined by Emil Sjölander to talk about bringing Dev Mode to Figma 💅

We go way back to Emil’s startup, Visly, that was acquired by Figma, how we iterated to here from 20 years ago (think PSD > HTML days), what they did to build Dev Mode, what they’re doing around codegen, the popularity of design systems, and more 🙌

Figma help needed! Sort of. I have some colleagues who will be using Figma for the first time soon. Do you have any Figma introductory courses or resources that you can recommend?

I specifically would like ones you know are good - from doing them or people recommending them. (I have of course used search engines myself already)

Boosts welcomed!

Pretty neat plugin: 'Magnifier' - https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1304128971729813386/magnifier

Zoom into any part of your design – perfect for product docs, portfolios, marketing assets, design reviews, and many more.

It includes two free styles: light and dark. The Pro version provides access to scaling options and additional styles.

I get that developers need to eat, too (I am one), but how is it that some plugins cost more than the Figma subscription itself and are subscription-based themselves. 😳 There's a lot of great stuff that I'd love to use and support, but it's just prohibitively expensive, especially since the plugin subscriptions are per user per month as well. 😅

Arranger: a Figma plugin to arrange any number of objects in 10 different layout types, like radial (full circle or arc), along a custom vector path, pack an area with objects, and much more. Trust me, when you will need it, you will be happy this exists.

How do I split apart a closed path in ? Google giving me nothing. The shape is currently a closed semi circle, I need just the curved path

When did the wireframe die and who killed it?

amalgam_,
@amalgam_@mastodon.social avatar

@kevindreher Figma?

No but seriously I think a few things happened:

  • one things was or atleast and . It’s not much more work to drag and drop the real component instead of a wireframe.
  • I think there has been a shift in ways of working. Instead of doing a wireframe and aligning with stakeholders you go straight into design or even to code and adjust from there

I just came across oklch() in a CSS color definition for the first time and thought, “[Expletive]. Yet another way to define colors‽”

Then I read the specification (and by read, I mean looked at the comparison images and skipped over the complex math) and was impressed. https://bottosson.github.io/posts/oklab/

The MDN documentation linked to this article that then convinced me to never use hsl() again. https://evilmartians.com/chronicles/oklch-in-css-why-quit-rgb-hsl

Does have an option to not add prototype / presentation versions as "Recent Files"? Because it‘s really cluttering everything up and having to manually remove them every time I go into presentation mode is getting pretty annoying. 😅
