So who was the greatest band of the scene? For a long time I would have said Nirvana but I'm now thinking maybe Alice In Chains (for the Layne Staley period).

to Dirty by Sonic Youth from 1992:

https://piped.video/watch?v=ZBgQo3O053c

It blows my mind that this album was released over 30 years ago. Yet the lyrics to Youth Against Fascism show us that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

"Yeah, the president sucks
He's a war pig fuck
His shit is out of luck

It's the song I hate
It's the song I hate

Another Nazi attack
A skinhead is cracked
My blood is black"

strypey,

Having a bit of a Sonic Youth time travel tour today. After Dirty, I went back to 1988 to listen to Daydream Nation, and now I'm in 1990, to Goo:

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=ibq2J3hDwR0

Again, the lyrics to Kool Things sound eerily relevant:

"Hey, Kool Thing, come here
Sit down beside me
There's something I got to ask you
I just wanna know, what are you gonna do for me?
I mean, are you gonna liberate us girls
From male white corporate oppression?"

#Listening to the first Alice in Chains studio album, Facelift, released in 1990. Not a big fan of this one. It's too long, and none of the songs stand out from the pack as they do on Dirt, released 2 years later. I don't know the self-titled 1995 album as well, and it's even longer. But there's more variety in the tracks than on Facelift.

Radiohead - Creep

WIKI
"Creep" is the debut single by the English rock band Radiohead, released on 21 September 1992. It appeared on their debut studio album, Pablo Honey (1993). Radiohead took elements from the 1972 song "The Air That I Breathe"; following legal action, Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood are credited as cowriters.

To my heart you had the key.
You took away my dignity.
It took me this long to see,
what the fuck you're doing to me.

Tie me down, suburban chains.
Keep me standing in the rain.
I think you must like the pain.
You are driving me insane.
Insane!

In my face you slam the door,
Kick my brains across the floor,
I won't take it anymore,
Anymore!

Ask me to be your spouse,
Lead me you, you dirty louse,
Armed gunmen in your house,
Dissect my life, like a mouse,

Why did you make it so hard?
Prowlers creeping in the dark.
Setting traps in your backyard.
Lock yourself behind bars.
Yeah!

In my face you slam the door.
Kick my brains across the floor.
I won't take it anymore.
Anymore.
Anymore.
Anymore.
Anymore.

Flat World.
~ Dgar.

Truth and justice, It's not fair,
Right here, Left there,
Come 'round, Go square,
Either way baby, I don't care.

I want to hold you tight,
I want to lock you up,
I want to tie you down,
I want to pick you up,
In a flat world, flat world, flat word, it's a flat world.
Flat world, flat world, flat world, it's a flat world.

Hot mustard, cool ice,
Fixed result, roll the dice,
Truth be told, pack of lies,
Raw fish and white rice.

I want to hold you tight,
I want to lock you up,
I want to tie you down,
I want to pick you up,
In a flat world, flat world, flat word, it's a flat world.
Flat world, flat world, flat world, it's a flat world.

So close, miles away,
Don't talk, just say,
Bright night, today,
I love you, my babe.

I want to hold you tight,
I want to lock you up,
I want to tie you down,
I want to pick you up,
In a flat world, flat world, flat word, it's a flat world.
Flat world, flat world, flat world, it's a flat world.

Truth and justice, it's not fair,
Right here, left there,
Come 'round, go square,
Either way baby, I don't care.

I want to hold you tight,
I want to lock you up,
I want to tie you down,
I want to pick you up,
In a flat world, flat world, flat word, it's a flat world.
Flat world, flat world, flat world, it's a flat world.

Thank you all so much for listening!

« Is new X icon supposed to look so grungy? I realized that it’s actually profound perfection. Because with its distressed background, the iOS app icon finally gives the world’s premiere edgelord a perfectly absurd graphic style—and a mirror. The scuffed-up icon, which was previously available to “X Premium” subscribers, works as a metaphor for his dinged and damaged platform. Perhaps even better than realizes. »
