Django 5.0 has been released 🎉

After months of work, everyone can use this great new version 🙌

My favorite features are:
• 🤖 generated fields
• ✅ database default values
• 🔑 prefetch related for generic foreign keys

Which are your favorite features?

💸 Struggling database company MariaDB could be taken private in $37M deal
— TechCrunch

"The commercial entity behind MariaDB raised some $125 million in venture funding through the years to develop premium features and services on top of the core project, eventually going public in December 2022 via a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC)."

Honestly, there was a time where MariaDB was relevant, and that was when PostgreSQL was weird, MS SQL was costly, and MySQL was on the verge of being proprietary.

Today, MS SQL has low entrance barriers, MySQL still works, and PostgreSQL is versatile and rock solid.

What does MariaDB offers that other don’t?

After using TablePlus for around 3 years, is this still a good app to use? Are there newer better alternatives.

It’s renewal time and I’d like to check-in on other apps before upgrading.

Feedback welcome.

Moved my instance database from 10.6 to 10.11.

Now running with default settings instead of customized. The experience seems smoother so far

My old man trait is that I think SQL is easier to read and work with than arel, active record et al. Unless you're making libraries, just write the damn query.

Today has been an interesting day. What I liked the most was a call this morning with a young but skilled developer. He asked for an upgradable, no-frills setup, fast and reliable. I suggested and a jail for each service (one for , one for , one for and , etc.), but I explained that he would need to embrace the concept of using such a solution.

He responded that he can't wait to learn something new and that he liked my proposal. These are the moments of satisfaction when your experience can be helpful to young and enthusiastic IT enthusiasts who, in turn (if they see the benefits), will promote your choices to their friends and colleagues.

I need fedi brains. How would you store SSH public keys in a MariaDB DB?

As complete strings? Would that string include the key comment?

Should it be broken down?

Should I store the key type as text to handle all future types, or should I take an enum which I have to maintain?

Should it be ASCII or binary blob?

What to do with the key comment? Separate column?

So many ways to do it, and I'm looking for rational/logical reasons to pick one of them.

It seems and have entirely diverted into two separate products.
While lists MariaDB and MySQL in their requirements, their recommendation is MySQL8 - which would be okay, you can have a favorite child.
On the other hand, developers now use functions that are exclusive to MySQL8 - completely disregarding the existence of MariaDB and thus breaking Shopware compatibility with MariaDB itself.
