Spending more than 5 minutes making spicy YouTube takedowns about Zak Syndrr’s #RebelMoon films is like taunting clowns for their injudicious use of pies.
Just now getting to Rebel Moon Part 2. Movie has some weird ass cinematic choices. I'm only 30 minutes in and so far I've watched about 10 minutes of people collecting grain and drinking water. Scythefi?
Also did second unit forget how to focus a lens or...half this movie looks like it has vaseline all over it.
The Rebel Moon movies are like watching someone else play a video game.
They're visually distinctive - everything looks cool - and there are plenty of exposition dumps that would work fine as cut scenes. Players could unlock new POV characters as Kora progresses through the story with Gunnar, assembling her magnificent 7 space samurai. The predictable, cliche story wouldn't be nearly as irritating if you could be immersed in it, rather than just watching it.
There are two #ZackSnyder flicks that I really like: Dawn of the Dead and, specially, Sucker Punch (sue me). Overall I generally like his visual flair, but his projects tend to be really hit and miss, IMO. And when he misses, he really does. Case in point: the AliExpress Star Wars palimpsest that is #RebelMoon, or what you'll find in the dictionary when you search "sh*tshow".
Vraiment ? 🤦♂️
Wait, what? Now #RebelMoon has morphed into #Gladiator and ALSO brings in Djimon Hounsou? Am I going insane? Did Zack Snyder imagine he was being clever? Jesus Christ, #Netflix…
This is the only review of #RebelMoon, which I haven’t and won’t see, that I will be reading.
> This is when we find out that SURPRISE! Kora’s a badass who used to work for the Not Empire, and that she can kill everyone using the power of digital fight scene choreography.
Tried watching #RebelMoon again, and ... oof. Tapped out with like 45 mins to go. The visuals are interesting (in a 40k/Dune knockoff sort of way), but the script is just so very bad.
It's all so serious! Without any real solid ideas behind it to justify its existence, or even a sense of fun and levity to watch the space lasers go pew pew pew.
So I gave #RebelMoon a watch. Not sure if my favorite part was the Cantina scene where they met Irish Han Solo or when skinny Aquaman rode Buckbeak the Hippogriff. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Got around to watching #RebelMoon and I knew I shouldn’t have bothered. It’s a po-faced remake of Battle Beyond the Stars (which in turn was a remake of Magnificent 7 and Seven Samurai), but with Snyder’s lens flare, oiled pecs, wooden dialogue and slowmo fight scenes.
Read @louie’s fascinating behind-the-scenes of how he got involved in the production and created four entirely original alien alphabets for their unique languages and writing systems—totaling over twenty individual fonts and hundreds of bespoke characters.
