Support female artists, like my niece Elle Graham.
If you'd like to see her perform on Thursday at Neumos in Seattle, let me know. I might have an extra ticket.
Women are underrepresented in the music industry.
"In 2022, hit songs had 6 songwriters on average: 5 men and 1 woman." - The Pudding, https://pudding.cool/2023/07/songwriters/
Elle's playing keyboard for her friend Grace's band Mallrat and tells me the entire crew is women or non-binary.
So. I made a comprehensive list of all of my favorite Black Women leading the #modernjazz and #lofi movement. It's pretty solid. Give it a read, and let me know if there is anyone I missed.
@hq
Iceland = Björk when it comes to #WomenInMusic, right?
Noooo!
Check this out:
Especially all ya black coat wearing goths out there! #WIM of course also appear within the #Goth genre and one of the most outstanding formation of the recent years are without a doubt Kælan Mikla (Laufey Soffía, Margrét Rósa Dóru-Harrýsdóttir, and Sólveig Matthildur Kristjánsdóttir) from Island.
Although I find the last album a bit too smoothed (in order to sound more "radio compatible" or whatever?) I can't deny I like their mystic cleric dark wave synth goth style often with #witch like high pitch yelling as trying to rip your soul out of your breast. The fact that they do not sing in English but Icelandic add to bewitching darkness dropping from their tracks.
Feelin the patriotism? Wanna support somebody's music? I'm living and making music in the US. Today's a day for making noise. Use my music to add flavor. Hahaha
Please don't blow your hands off playin with fireworks, ok?
Music pioneer, Delia Derbyshire. She set the stage for a lot of the modern music we hear today. She was an innovative genius. And, yeah, she arranged the original Dr. Who theme.
