When you attach a video, audio or an image to a post, you have the possibility of providing a #description the description helps disabled users to understand what your content is about. Adding a #altText or a description of sorts also helps those with low internet who cannot load the media. Your media is also more likely to be boosted when all are included and know what it is about. 1/3
Open Science is often presented as a solution to the multiple problems afflicting contemporary scientific practices, ranging from lack of reproducibility to dubious review procedures, inefficient communications and lack of transparency around methods and circumstances of research. Much of the debate around Open Science and how it should be implemented verges, however, on the use of the natural sciences – and particularly biomedicine – as a reference point. In this talk, I challenge this assumption, propose an alternative understanding of the ideas of openness and transparency, and suggest ways to value the humanities, arts and social sciences as role models for at least some aspects of Open Science implementation.
I go away for a few months and more people on Masto appear to post images without descriptions including those people who I thought were good about reposting things without alt text. Sad to find more and more posts with images that have no #description.
Okay #haters we've enabled #description#text on our #images courtesy of #huggingface#ai we run the #LLM locally because AI is that consumable now. I hope this helps those who are in need of such texts.
With BeMyAI and Lookout on the rise and existing services like Seeing AI and Envision being out there, it seems like a lot of #blind people are trying to become familiar with phone cameras and their interfaces. There are a lot of questions about camera positioning--e.g., how to point, how to stand, what will be covered, etc.
@rbanffy#description "Two panel photo montage, top: a white woman standing in front of an old castle, wearing a buttoned up blue shirt and a coat, with long hair tied behind her head, says « Dungeons and Dragons is the most popular table top game with Americans because it allows them to fulfill their wildest fantasies ».
Bottom panel: the same woman, a bit closer, continues « Like speaking multiple languages and being able to make a living while freelancing »"
Are there any tools similar to #Redux in #React for #Python regarding database caching? I want to basically have a local copy of API results. If a result is not locally available, it is pulled from the API. If it is already locally available, it should return the local cache without calling the API again.
Rather than being repeatedly frustrated when seeing someone's posts with photos attached that have no #descriptions, I've just decided to unfollow them despite having certain afinities with them.
Yes. It's the same person about whom I subtooted the other day.
Liberals, you need to check your allyship card. If you're not including #disabled people in that group, you're not a true #ally. All you are doing is pretending.
One of my holy grail software quests is a community tagging (aka #folksonomy) plugin for #WordPress. The idea is that users/readers could add #tags to posts and/or images.
If I'm posting a screenshot of terminal output, or code, or ... stuff like that, what is the most accessible / helpful way to add a description for it?
should I copy/paste the entire focus part of the image into the description?
Should I describe what's the focus of the screenshot?
@DylanTheThomas Consider what the reason for posting your screen shot is. As you're thinking about adding the #description, it's important to get the focus conveyed at the very least. In general, including all the text along with conveying the focal info should be done. What you include or not include will also depend on the context you provide in your post that's not a part of the photo.
Wow. When politics rears its ugly head even here, we see the true face. Oodles of undescribed images show up when there's absolutely no reason for them.
This fixes a problem where updating a streaming site could lose the second segment of the video when another video was added and the selection changed which segments to inline.
Lately I have been seeing so many posts with images and they are not including Alt text for accessibility.
If you are posting images please always put a Alt text saying what is or what it's showing so people with disability can understand what they are seeing.
