Microscopic spores are kicked up when the ground is disturbed; if inhaled, they can cause an infection known as Valley fever. Most people recover without ever knowing they had...

Scientists have found 4,000-year-old DNA that’s the oldest evidence of the plague in two different locations in Britain. The evidence of widespread transmission across such a vast area in just a few centuries “seems to be one aspect of the rapid movement of people, technologies and ideas during this period,” archeologist Benjamin Roberts said. Here’s more from The Smithsonian.

I never had as a child. The adverts seem to suggest I'm at lower risk. That seems odd.

Why scientists have a hard time getting money to study the root causes of disease outbreaks.

Propublica has done a series of stories which show that "government and nonprofit groups that award grants to scientists favor research that’s high tech and treatment oriented."

Curing disease is the hot new field for AI talent - One of the many exciting and appropriate uses of new technologies. As a former health care professional who is very disillusioned with the current state of health care delivery in the US and third world nations, I am excited about the prospects of AI-assisted diagnostics, robotic surgery and new drug development. It is unfortunate however that the corporate medical/pharma complex will reap untold and likely obscene profits from these efforts. Which is why I support public university research and https://www.semafor.com/article/04/21/2023/curing-disease-is-the-hot-new-field-for-ai-talent
