"Compared with the period from 1901 to 1960, cool season rainfall in the last two decades has dropped by 20%. Very wet years have almost completely disappeared.
About half of this change has been blamed on rising greenhouse gas #emissions, which could be an underestimate, according to one study led by Bureau of Meteorology scientists."
Styx Valley: Jim Everett Arrested
Stop and listen as Jim Everett, elder pakana plangermairreenner, explains why he was arrested protecting his Country in a forest protest at the Styx Valley of the Giants where logging has been destroying World Heritage-value forests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4fs6HPAbIY#StyxValley#Eucalyptus
And just like that... it's #winter! Very rare for us in North-East England to get autumn foliage AND snow AND sun in the same shot. Fitting for the first day of meteorological winter. Cotinus (smoke bush) and eucalyptus backed by the beech hedge and a whitebeam in snow on a sunny morning.
An impressive Manna Gum I saw on this #thicktrunktuesday at Barringo Reserve, Vic. (#Eucalyptus viminalis). Not the biggest I've seen but the taper is unusually pronounced.
Walking around the neighbourhood under the shade of some trees near the footpath, I completely forgot it was swooping season until my presence was loudly communicated to all and sundry ... which set off a chain warble.
No swoops but I was watched. Maybe they also hang out in my garden and recognised me. 🤣 Lovely afternoon light in the background.
#Mosquito control experiment status: #eucalyptus#lemon oil #repellent works, and doesn't melt plastic like #DEET -- however, need to change clothing between inside and outside, otherwise you fill up any small enclosed spaces with eucalpytus lemon oil and you start choking on the fumes. Yes, my pants were rapidly deployed outside (I put on other pants, don't worry).
It is a gorgeous sunny day - and our #eucalyptus tree is thriving.
We were a bit concerned with how it would do in the London clay, but with a bit of TLC, a splurge of food, and plenty of water, it is growing up quickly.
This is 'Big Red', though he/she is actually a South Australian blue gum, #Eucalyptus leucoxylon. Biggest tree on our place and all the more special for being a crimson flowering form of the species. #bloomscrolling#ozplants#RockleighSA
Good to see eucalyptus trees getting cleared near the Claremont Hotel (the largest wood-frame structure west of the Mississippi, in a high fire danger area). Before: via Google Street View, after: this morning. #FireSafety#Eucalyptus
