Rainy morning. In the distance I hear and see skylarks singing. Right in front of me lands a common kestrel with prey. Great opportunity to observe it eating a mouse (?).
It was a bit of a grey dark day (what a difference with sunny yesterday). I went to nearby Sakura park. The trees are not blooming yet, except a couple of early starters. In one of the trees I spotted a long-tailed tit. It seemed it was collecting moss…? Perhaps for its nest?
On my morning bike ride I saw all three Belted Kingfishers at Tibbetts Brook Park (Yonkers, NY). Later I decided to spend some time differentiating the ducks floating in the pond at Van Cortlandt Park (Bronx, NY). I was surprised to see TWO Pied-Billed Grebes next to each other. Seeing one grebe isn't unusual. Seeing two in different parts of the pond is not unusual. Seeing two together is very unusual. I'd love to see some baby grebes but I'm unsure of when their breeding season is. These grebes aren't in breeding plumage.
I've been active on the Fedi for almost a year, nearly always following folks who post bird pictures, and only just a bit ago saw the hashtag #Featherverse. It's genius.
