I'm working to improve the @pixelfed mobile app onboarding.
It will probably be seen as more controversial than the Mastodon app.
I'm okay with that.
Some people claim we're emulating popular platforms as if it's a bad thing, like we're selling user data or building communities without safety and moderation.
Ignore them, growth isn't a bad thing, we need to make the #fediverse easy to join, and moderate!
Every fedi project emulates an existing service, nothing is new lol
@dansup@pixelfed what about building in an instance cap size, that would go a long way to ensure that #pixelfed doesn't go the centralized way of #mastodon ?
I was able to make some progress on Pixelfed (hello /api/v2/instance api) and reach out to the Calckey devs on feature compatibility but I wasn't able to focus on #pixelfed as much as I'd like.
This weekend I'll be laser focused on #pixelfed, don't worry 😉
It looks like my #Pixelfed instance, gram.social, is running outdated software and has been for a few weeks. (@stux seems too busy to be able to address this).
1.) Is it possible to just delete a pixelfed account?
2.) Can one just create an additional, new, separate account on another pixelfed instance?
I‘ve been trying to upload iPhone 11 videos to #Pixelfed (specifically pixelfed.social) but I‘m only getting errors. After being told that only certain formats are supported, I used a conversion app to change the format from MOV to MP4, double-checked that the video still works and tried uploading. All I get is the attached error message.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen at least one video uploaded by someone else, so it should work. Does anybody know anything that could help? Is there a size limit? The Help Center doesn‘t mention anything like that. #PixelfedSupport#TechnicalHelpNeeded
Would love to get some #FediVerse advice:
I hope to make an art-only account on the FediVerse. But #PixelFed seems broken for my account there - and so far I get zero support from either PixelFed or the admin of my instance.
Sadly I must assume it's not ready 😕
I'm not sure yet if I should switch instance or switch to Mastodon. I'm hoping to reach a wider community ... so I'm tending to make a .social account, rather than an .art one. Is that a good solution? Any other options?
So noticing toots (replies) from my other Mastodon account are visible here. Is that true of my direct posts as well? If Calckey is not Mastodon based, feeling a little weird about that.🤔
@kainoa@Bobbo When I first realized that I could look at and interact with other services like #FunkWhale and #PixelFed right on my own timeline on Mastodon (and now Calckey), it finally clicked - it's a very strange concept when we are all so used to each content provider walling themselves off, trying to keep you in their own spaces.
I’m still a little confused about on aspect of the #fediverse: are we supposed to create a new account for each new platform? Isn’t one of the points of #PeerTube, #PixelFed, Mastodon and others to talk to each other seamlessly that we don’t have to have a separate account for each?
