Tribes have long been among the staunchest advocates of wildlife crossings. But grant funding stipulations, as well as some state agencies like the Dept. of Transportation, can work against them.

Nevertheless, tribes like the Stillaguamish, the Upper Skagit, the Santa Ana Pueblo, the Burns Paiute, and the Salish and Kootenai are taking the lead on connecting habitat and reducing the harms of American highways and interstates.

Looks like another successful for with a whole bunch of both gov and charity causes pitching their ideas alongside music, games, food and plenty of nicks and nacks.

The real success is seeing RBCs (roving bands of children) just enjoying the street. More of this!

Did you know that you can purchase an electric vehicle for as little as $1,000?

Not only that, these vehicles also:

  • Can skip traffic jams
  • Be parked virtually anywhere
  • Get over 1,000 mpge
  • Emits no harmful air pollution
  • Don't require a government permit or expensive insurance
  • Can easily be repaired by yourself, and don't require long waits at expensive dealerships
  • Include optional exercise equipment, allowing you to choose to get exercise while in transit (if you want) and skip the gym membership
  • Can be operated by people of almost any age, so your kids can now transport themselves

What is this vehicle I'm describing? Some sort of newfangled flying car? A quantum teleporter?

No: It is the humble electric bicycle.

Spread the word.

The worst part about being in is that high-density housing is only allowed to be built in the areas with the most car traffic. As an obligate pedestrian, you have to deal with the noise, air pollution, and danger from cars while not benefitting from the convenience of being able to drive

The people who can actually afford a house are the ones who get to enjoy quiet and safe streets while making the city worse for everyone else. Limits on density privilege the wealthy

One of the reasons I find it difficult to have any interest or motivation to learn to operate an automobile is I've rarely been in situations where they were essential.

When people think of family trips maybe they think of car rides. For me, I think of long train rides through Malaysia and Thailand; rickety microbuses in Borneo; motorbike taxis to Cambodia.

I'm almost 40 and I've never had a drivers license. I'm only considering one as a form of identification (I already have a StateID).

Toastie,
@Toastie@journa.host avatar

@skinnylatte I think this is what's missing from so much of the polarized, holier-than-thou transit / discourse. Someone can be ideologically against cars and still practically dependent on them, at least in part, for systemic reasons.

Question for parents, or just parents that walk/bike their kid to school; what do you do for severe thunderstorms? Does the school make any allowances around it? This morning we had severe storms with flooding and a tornado warning and it wasn't until later that I noticed an email from the superintendent saying that people could wait and tardiness would be excused.
