Pro-tip for fans of @pluralistic : if you find his long threads clog your timeline, subscribe to his feed instead:

https://pluralistic.net/feed/

So much nicer to get the whole article in your feed reader of choice than interleaved among other posts on your timeline!

If you still want to see stuff he boosts on Mastodon, or other toots here, use a filter to screen out the long threads:

A screen shot showing a Mastodon filter named "Cory's threads", with a single keyword: "Long thread/"

@stealthisbook@nerdculture.de avatar

@plantarum @pluralistic I'm grateful that I don't actually have to think about Corey's analytics or ad revenue when I decide how I want to read his stuff. Presumably, he gets the same info or doesn't care if I read his stuff post by post, click through to the website, or read it on via rss on Feedly in its entirety. Some authors I genuinely worry about whether my click directly gives revenue, generates a valid page view, or not.

plantarum,
@plantarum@ottawa.place avatar

@stealthisbook @pluralistic

he's pretty explicit about not tracking anything from his website, and invites readers to his domain to read his stuff. I think that puts him in the 'doesn't care about your data', or more accurately 'actively doesn't want your data' category

Can anyone recommend some good programming blogs (in the realm of lisps, emacs, guix, technical deep dives) that offer RSS feeds? I've already got https://wingolog.org/ from @wingo which is pretty much the exact genre of blog I'm looking for. https://ianthehenry.com/posts/ from @ianthehenry is also a good one (although the RSS feed doesn't seem to work with GFeeds :).
I just think it would be cute to have a selection of RSS feeds to browse through :)

I guess @louis https://louis.emacs.ch/ has an RSS feed too. Actually, most people I know have RSS feeds and write deeply about emacs.

@screwtape My "blog" site is automatically generated off my public Mastodon feed. All users of our instance can simply put a URL in their profile ([username].emacs.ch) and it automatically sets up the site incl. SSL certificate. We call it "Autoblog". Aren't I a genious? 😉

It is described here: https://faq.emacs.ch

@kev Do you have a link to the spec for this tag? I’d like to try with my Astro-based site and will report back. Maybe it’s to do with needing to define the “source” namespace?

I've got almost 300 items in my RSS reader. Currently using NewsBoat over ssh to read them but it's less than ideal on mobile. I'm considering switching to Miniflux. Found plenty of positive reviews of it recently. Do you use Miniflux? What's your opinion?

kev,
@kev@fosstodon.org avatar

@xpil Yup I’m a Miniflux user too. It’s great, and they have a PWA so no apps required on mobile, unless you want to.

I self-hosted it for a while, but now just pay the very small amount for their managed hosting.

Has anyone made a custom recipe for Mastodon #rss feeds in #Calibre?

Currently, just adding a feed to the BasicNewsRecipe recipe, you get 'unknown titles', part of the text and please enable javascript in the body.

Calibre guru's, if you don't mind, take a peek at my rss feed at https://oldfriends.live/@paul.rss and point me into the right direction #Ebook

I'm going to work on this and if I come up with something, will pass it along. I'm slow, though. 🤓

@danie10 Yes, you need to use at least one filter to move stuff into a "Feeds" mailbox, otherwise it's unmanageable.

Gibts hier irgendwelche Tricks?

So, I haven't watched #YouTube for a month, and I don't feel anything was missing. I only listened to two videos while walking.

Now I've finally suspended #RSS updates for most YouTube channels. Doing this for each feed (as Tiny Tiny RSS requires) did put things into perspective...

I've spent so much time in some of these channels. Dozens if not hundreds of hours. And it took some effort to accept letting go, even though effectively, I've already done it.

I did leave two channels alive: one channel that served as a source for ~95% of YouTube links in my zettelkasten, and #systemcrafters, of course.

We'll see how it goes further.

holgerschurig,

@sqrtminusone I went out of SystemCrafters channel months ago. Not because it's bad ... but he makes loooong videos. Often an hour long.

sqrtminusone,

@holgerschurig Yeah, that's true. But usually, there are also show notes.
