I want to be more active about encouraging users to federate.

To that end, I asked @nationalkidneyfoundation to federate this morning and bring their good work around kidney disease and transplant to the .

Welcome, @nationalkidneyfoundation!

The vibes on Threads have been shifted. The For you feed brings up negative and controversial posts. Unsurpisingly no such negativity exists on my chronological feeds on Mastodon.

I've never really used TikTok but it feels like what I'd expect from there. I'm kinda worried they've made it a place even people who can handle X today wouldn't want to come to.

old twitter would still be awesome if anybody offered it. we do but sadly without the big names, which are kinda essential to making it feel essential.

@rolle

I don't seem to be seeing "negative" or "controversial" posts when I look at my Threads "For You" feed.

Do you think the change you are seeing on your Threads "For You" feed is something that affects most Threads users? Or something that may have just affected you?

If I could have one app that combined what all four of these Apps do, I would be so happy

rolle,
@rolle@mementomori.social avatar

@TVPaulD In some form you will, because Threads is implementing ActivityPub and Bluesky can be bridged via BridgyFed. In the future it would be possible to just use one to access them all.

Finally I'm getting around to listen to @mike 's Dot.Social episode with @rklambo and @pcottle from #meta, talking about #threads.

Mike asks the most important question first: "why are you [Meta] doing this [Fediverse integration]?"

J12t,
@J12t@social.coop avatar

Rachel provides two key reasons (my phrasing):

  1. wants to be the best place where people have relevant, public, real-time conversations, and the is the means by which people can find the audiences that are best for those conversations, because not all of them will be on Threads.

  2. The fediverse is a compelling way for creators to own their audiences in a way they aren't able to own on other apps today.

@J12t@social.coop avatar

Peter: one of the advantages of is that you can limit exposure to other servers.

is all public, and that's another reason why is a better match for Meta.

Is anyone doing more to federate than @tchambers? He’s like a one man combination ambassador and welcome party 😂

It feels so totally random who on chooses to turn on fedi sharing and who doesn't.

A lot more happening -wise on than here, upon a quick look. And I can't really gather the activity at since there's NO way I can display most recent activity, even if not sorted by time 🤦‍♂️ so idk where to keep posting on Saturday 😕

I just found this out. If you want to know if someone on Threads can be followed on Mastodon, you can type the following into the terminal:

curl "https://threads.net/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct:potus@threads.net"

For the POTUS account on threads.

If you get back a JSON object that doesn't have an error in it, you have someone you can follow.

This means it's fairly easy to write a local script to see who has turned on federation over on Threads.

My quick reaction on after one day -

No shocker - I hate the way it incorporates with the as a whole and, at least currently, feels like it's working in (ish) bad faith.. that may change, but for now they are simply using us as potential eyeballs to boost their engagement numbers (esp for their "big accounts")

BUT...

From my experience, it beats the absolute pants off of in terms of actual "topic" interaction

Your miles may vary...

@jacklaridian @Tim_Eagon

There are toxic folk here for sure, but the majority seem to leave quickly because of a smaller userbase, domain blocking, and unwillingness to "feed" them.

I have a small but great handful of folks I'm quite active here with .. it's sadly reduced over the last year, but the interaction here for me has always been more positive as a whole.. think I'll hang a round a bit longer.. 😂

Tim_Eagon,
@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

@multiverseofbadness @jacklaridian There's a strong core here that can be foundational for later, but some folks have left and some check-in periodically (I turn on notifications for when they post, so I don't miss them).

Is anyone aware of a bot that counting the number of federated accounts? Just curious about the uptake by Threads users. Out of their puported hundred million users, I would anectdotally guess about 1000 users have voluntarily federated, but maybe you know better than me?

@darren

There is this, for what it's worth

"Popular Fediverse Accounts: The most popular accounts across the fediverse"

Here: https://fedidb.org/popular-fediverse-accounts

It claims to cover both and the /

I can't comment on the accuracy or credibility of the data collection methods used

darren,
@darren@c.im avatar

@FinchHaven I may have to roll my own bot. I'd like to know generally how many accounts have voluntarily federated. It seems to me that very few have.
