Signed into a new device today…it was my first day at ! 💙👩‍💻

I’ll be working with the team on styling capabilities in the Designer product. Feels like a really cool way to apply my background in design and web standards…really excited to build great things for our customers, and having fun meeting everyone so far!

Inbetween work, I've been adding Alt text to the (non decorative) static and dynamic images on my site. I've also added these as hover tooltips.

When I've finished, the alt-text will be present across the featured work pages (I just need to write and add the actual text to the CMS) https://andycarolan.com

I've just updated my About page with a bento style layout.

I wanted to have as much info as possible, easy to view across devices. Breakpoints should be ok, but may need adjustment.

As usual, built in Webflow, all work my own etc etc.

Which plugin/extension/module library layout would be most useful for you and why?

*The search field on the Webflow page is for the entire webflow university, not for the plugins.

**Squarespace does not have a search field.

Anyone using for and using SVGs should be aware of this absolute sorcery. Ok, technically it is code, in a noCode environment. But still tho

I see just rebranded and updated its UI and all the things. It'll take me a while to decide if it's better (UI elements are now very small, brand type is very bold, maybe feels just a smidge dated*, or not), but in the meantime change is good

*very much based off a friendly, quite circular/geometric sans, as many, many corporates have already moved to in recent years. Approachable

I've made some changes to the Logo Folio on my site. They are now much smaller and presented in single color wiithin (as all logos should be recognisable this way).

As a designer…

TFW you change something minor on your website, then realise that you will need to change that same minor thing across your entire brand.

And...

TFW you realise that InDesign is actually a really good app and you enjoy using it more than you should 😅

So, I have my link'tree’ at https://andycarolan.com/links - it lists my Portfolio, but should I make My User Manual more obvious and add the link there too?

At the minute, it's kinda buried in my About page.

I could add it to the navbar too?

Designers using Webflow: "Look I'm a react dev now"
Developers using Webflow: "Look I'm a webflow dev now."

For real though, for static sites, Webflow is changing the game. As a frontend dev in a digital agency environment, I'm seeing myself turn into a Webflow dev.

It's been a long way coming, but frontend dev is becoming less and less a thing on static site builds.

Trying out Webflow's new "Devlink" feature. (which is now open beta)

If you want to efficiently convert a Webflow site to a Next.JS site, it seems reasonably good.

However, Webflow's terminology that you "sync components" is misleading. It's more like "exporting" components as code. You cannot "sync" code changes back into Webflow.

Overall, it's a helpful time-saver, but not a game-changer.

I've set up a conditional rule for the Customer Success Story URLs on my site. If the URL field in the CMS is empty, it hides the link, and instead displays the company name in plain text instead.
