“Humans are a social species down to our core; the more modern life erodes our opportunities for actual human companionship — whether it’s by interposing technology as an intermediary into every interaction, or sucking up all our time with the capitalist/consumerist grind — the more desperate we’ll become for friendly-sounding volleyball substitutes.”
“Here’s the paradox: even while the language fluency fools us into imagining these chatbots are ‘persons’, we simultaneously place far more trust in their accuracy than we would with any real human. That’s because the fact that we still know it’s a computer activates another, more modern rule of thumb: that computer-generated information is accurate and trustworthy.”
It’s a brilliant essay; I highly recommend you take the time to read it.
“It’s full of crap. I’m not a Democrat. I’m not a Republican. I vote for the person. This won’t change my mind because I don’t think he broke the law,” she said. “Trump has always been an open book. He has nothing to hide.”
-Says the person who is definitely going to vote for Trump after learning he definitely broke the law b/c he had something to hide.
Just goes to show how ignorant most people are about the details of this trial:
@KydiaMusic This verdict is going to send the MAGAts deeper into their delusions, and made-up conspiracy theories. I'm anticipating unhinged actions by the most insane cultists. Probably involving violence. I think we all need to be vigilant in the coming days.
FYI no streaming service pays more than US $0.01 per stream. And that’s at the very top end, with a premium paying customer in a premium market.
I found this article explaining how streams are calculated helpful: https://soundcharts.com/blog/music-streaming-rates-payouts
Lots of variables like country, service tier, content pool & user engagement factor in, making the "average" per stream unpredictable.
Tidal & Qobuz pay more per stream b/c they have less streams overall--making every stream more valuable. 1/
Most Millennials and GenZ use streaming to discover and share new music. If you primarily buy CDs, vinyl, or digital downloads, that's great! More power to you.
But very few of the younger generations are listening to the radio (which is still hard for indies to get on--even independent and college stations), they go to their streaming service of choice to find new music. And a lot of people are discovering music on Tik Tok or Instagram. The majority of younger people, in fact.
And suggesting indie artists must play live to build a following is just not going to work for every type of artist.
-playing live does not work easily for solo musicians in certain genres, without recruiting/hiring other musicians
-some artists live in remote areas with no good local live options
-venues want artists to already HAVE an audience they bring with them. It's the ol' "you need 5 years of experience for this entry level job" conundrum
