"If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."

Israel dropped 70,000 tons of bombs on Gaza Strip since last October, exceeding World War II bombings in Dresden, Hamburg, London combined, according to rights monitor.

(Please ignore misleading headline - it is not more than all ww2 bombs)

is unintentional

is intentional

Some patterns through which I knew the results were going to be different in Indian elections:

  • The young Chief Justice of India – hand-picked by Modi – threatening to jail the enablers of Modi – Baba Ramdev for not being present in person for a case against the court.

  • Rajdeep Sardesai the man who mainstreamed hindu supremacy in mainstream media when he was one of the most influential political voice on cable tv suddenly finding a spine and asking strict questions of hindu influencers on TV

I will say I was discombobulated by the exit polls when people I trust started saying they were probably true but I am glad my pattern matching did not fail!

It's perhaps the ugliest haircut ever, but I managed to shear my llama over the weekend!

At first I tried to get him into a small pen, but he knew it was a trap. So I just started cutting (with hand shears). He tolerated it for about a minute at a time, then he'd walk away, and I'd give him a little break, then start cutting again.

I got close to 10 pounds of (really dirty) wool, and now he looks like he's carved out of mattress foam. So weird. Hopefully he'll be cooler for the summer now!

A bunch of dirty brownish wool in a clear plastic bag, with my foot for scale. The bag is maybe 4 feet tall by 1 foot across. It's sitting on straw.
The llama standing out in a grassy pasture, surrounded by eating goats. He's still got a lot of long, fluffy fur on his neck, but his sides are MUCH less poofy than they used to be, with very roughly cut wool all along his sides.

there's a layer of corporate people who are interested in virtual presence in meetings, because for them meetings are not about information or problem solving, but about signaling and self-presentation. being seen at the meeting is much more important than the content. also, seeing their underlings at a meeting gives them some sense of power as well. their problem to solve is "how can I be more visible at all times"

Today's election result is not just about the coming 5 years. Whether there'll be free & fair elections at all in the future, whether our constitution will stand the test of time, whether we will become a hindu nation, all depends on it. This is going to be a crucial point in the history of #India. We may lose this #election, but we can't afford to lose #hope. At this point, even limiting the fascist party from achieving the brutal majority predicted by the various exit polls is a big win!

Ethiopia as a State failed to discharge its responsibility under international law to prevent & punish genocidal acts committed by ENDF, ASF & EDF. Heja Sverige.

I was one of the last people allowed into the San Francisco Mexican consulate to vote this afternoon. I cast my ballot at 4:53PM and the doors closed at 4:59PM, with a few hundred people still waiting outside to vote. Some had been waiting for hours.

Things got tense. SF Police came and placed themselves between the consulate door and the attempted voters. Those inside were told we'd have to wait until the situation calmed down. I ended up leaving through the emergency exit leading to the alley.

Real unfortunate situation. A failure at every level.

A video of the door to the consulate closing from the inside, with SF police outside and consulate guards inside.

"In 1635, mining was introduced in Sápmi when a silver mine opened near Árjepluovve in Sweden. The impact on Sámi society was huge. Businessmen and settlers arrived from the south, while local Sámi were driven from their homes and used as coolies. Resistance was met with harsh repression. A special kind of water torture became notorious. Sámi were dragged along a rope underneath the ice of a frozen lake from one hole to another."

Locals protest wind energy due to impacts on Sami reindeer grazing lands

"This is not something we want to do. We would rather focus on digging farm beds, taking care of the animals, fishing, chopping wood, renovating homes, spring plowing, building wetlands, building social networks and petting cats. We would rather contribute to a positive development, a vibrant sparsely populated area. But now that no parliamentary means work, we have to try something."

The "chat control" has some nostalgic and déjà vu kinda ring to it, especially for people like me who have lived in Iran or similar places, because:

>> the chats of employees of security authorities and the military are also to be exempted from chat control.

So the affairs (romantic, sexual, political, financial, ...) of people at power are ironclad protected, but general public should live in a complete disadvantage and bring monitored.
