And to those going “well isn’t Macron being an elitist just how France is?”

Well yes, but that’s at least part why the Le Pen recipe works. She doesn’t come across like that

In the end the elite might run out of road

Just a little reminder that here in Europe, we play the same exact video games as youth from the United States

We do not have (daily) school shootings however

Instead of blaming video games, start looking at the super easy to get weapons on each corner of street problem

Games are not the problem, weapons are 🇺🇸

XScreenSaver 6.09 is out now, including iOS and (maybe someday) Android. Please see Previously: "Your personal information is very important to us."

Great news, everybody! Google has approved the updated XScreenSaver Privacy Policy. I assume that this means that they find it 100% factual and endorse it entirely.

So many "developers produce more quantities of code with copilot" studies so few "the patterns of interleaving and retrieval change depending on active vs passive consumption of generated solutions and we have like fifty years of research on this in learning science and so maybe we can apply it to make good recommendations about the best usage of generated work output" studies

@grimalkina Something I've wanted for years is a positive linter, a code linter that gives positive feedback or at least more constructive errors lol. I feel like these technologies have the potential to make an experience like that happen, and to generally make the coding environment better optimised for learning! Am imagining being able to give little contextual nudges that go beyond the syntax in a single line or file, maybe prompting folk to share a reflection, etc.

Wales and 20mph speed limits

From The Times today

'However, figures published this week show injuries on the roads fell by a third in the final quarter of last year compared to the same period a year earlier. After a review, the Welsh government agreed to more 30mph exemptions but insisted that most roads should remain at 20mph.’

The hysteria about 20mph was just that - rabble rousing based on no attention to the details. That included Times reporting.

Business meetings exist to share information and coordinate activity: this shit enables you to be apparently present in all but actually not engaged with any. If your calendar is triple-booked then your organization is under-resourced and needs more people, not more AI. Or it's holding unnecessary meetings to make management feel better about being surrounded by minions, in which case it needs to fire the executives responsible.

#OnThisDay, 4 Jun 1972, civil rights activist Angela Davis is acquitted in a trial over her alleged involvement in the 1970 Marin County Civic Centre attack.

Davis had been prosecuted for three capital felonies, including conspiracy to murder, after guns she owned were used in the attack. The all-white jury cleared her of all charges.

100 years ago , 3 Jun 1924, Alfonsina Strada crosses the finish line of the Giro d'Italia. She remains the only woman to have officially ridden in a Grand Tour.

At one point she had been disqualified on time grounds but was allowed to continue without the option of prizes. She finished ahead of the lantern rouge (the last cyclist to finish).

This is a remarkable graph.

You might have heard that "EV sales are slumping", "people are starting to avoid EVs", etc.

That's not what's happening.

What's happening is "Tesla is cratering so hard that it's skewing the aggregate market data."
