The US Constitution and common law are rooted in pre-18th century English legal jurisprudence and traditions.

And the "presidential immunity" bullshit is an attempt to rewind the clock to before 1649, when Parliament got fed up with the King's bullshit, put him on trial, and beheaded him.

@justafrog @StillIRise1963 it’s hard for me to believe that anyone accepts this version of presidential immunity as a general principle. I’m guessing if Biden did something flagrantly criminal and then suggested immunity, they would have a different tune.

This is about laying the groundwork for making official the cult of personality around Trump, similar to what you see in North Korea.

Trump, whose admin, and until recently himself, wanted to ban TikTok, is now squarely blaming Biden for the TikTok ban -- and Trump will probably get the vote of many people who depend on TikTok for their livelihoods as a result. A totally unforced error by Biden, even if courts ultimately find the TikTok ban unconstitutional (as they should).

Lethal Company is unrealistic as the YIELD signs found in-game do not correspond to the Vienna Conventions on road signage, not does it comply with the US MTCD either — both of which indicate that a yield or give way sign must have a red border.

The sign in Lethal Company is completely yellow, with no border, thus making it unrealistic.

However the STOP sign found in the game is compliant with the Vienna Conventions.

I am not fond of David Brooks, but I certainly understand why he finds the Cass Report so compelling.

For cisgender people who have no pre-existing knowledge, it's really a perfect document. It is completely decorous while implying that there are too many trans people and efforts should be made to limit their numbers.

  1. Evangelicals flip out, and DeSantis joins in.

This legislation isn’t meant to solve a problem; it’s meant to lead to the outcome (4).

I wouldn't necessarily assert that skews older than all other social media platforms currently in use (I doubt that reliable metrics exist), but Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement providers could do worse than looking for prospects on here.

The U.S. government should not be in the business of shutting down social media firms on the basis of China-hate. TikTok is no worse (and in fact seems to be far better) than various social media apps from U.S.-based firms. There's a lot of be upset with China about, but TikTok (and drone leader DJI, which also has bipartisan China-hate trying to ban it) are not where Congress should be getting involved. If Congress passes such bans and Biden signs them, there will be major court battles and courts should strike the bans down.

@Okanogen @lauren @CaptMorgan it’s not going to shake up anything. Billionaires will (correctly) interpret this as an anti-China move, not an anti-billionaire move. Mark Z. and Elon are not losing any sleep over this.

And the most likely outcome is not that TikTok is sold, but that it’s just banned in the US (because China would have to consent to the sale of TikTok, and in the past they’ve said they will refuse), which only means more business for FB and X, and less competition.

    @aetataureate one time, when she was pregnant but in the early days of her pregnancy (and wasn’t ready to share the news), my wife went to a professional event where alcohol was offered. Another attendee gave her a hard time about not drinking, and for refusing to share the reason she wasn’t drinking. It was obnoxious.

    (To be clear, his behavior would’ve still been out of line even if she weren’t pregnant.)

    Nobody is entitled to an explanation as to why someone else isn’t drinking.

    @RickiTarr Was the valedictorian. I thought I was one of the smartest kids in my school but wasn't wise enough to understand how LITTLE this matters. I had trouble fitting in with my peers socially (partly due to being autistic—which I wouldn't learn until my early 40s—and partly because I was arrogant). I don't really like who I was back then. Haven't gone to any HS reunions. I'm such a different person now (or try to be) and I don't want to be reminded of my old self.
