Reading comments about documentation on Hacker News is generally depressing, especially when the only answer is bringing up the same framework all the time. Diataxis has become the "have you tried turning it off and on again" of docs.

Have just begun watching “The Spirealm” with Huang Junjie and Xia Zhiguang 🌸 It’s not my usual genre, but since it is perhaps a Chinese BL or danmei, it is rather remarkable that is is airing at all. The idea is that people are drawn into a computer game where they can die in the real world if they die in the game. There is suspense and a delicate chemistry between the leads.

Am continuing my practice of typing out Chinese words and using them in proper sentences. I suspect I'm able to do this only because I have a foundation in Mandarin, and have intermediate listening skills. So a lot of my sentences are based on instinct not on remembering grammatical rules. I plug what I write in ChatGPT/Copilot to check if they're right.
They keep saying I am.
I am feeling suss lol.
Anyway folks, do we say 风很大 ? (It's windy) It feels odd.

I'm just getting around to watching the Chinese version of Three-Body and I gotta say it's much better than the Netflix version. Minus the intro beat-down it's very closely following the books.

The reaction on Chinese social media to Netflix's adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem" has been mixed, but Vox's Aja Romano argues that depictions of nationalistic outrage are probably exaggerations. She unpacks the response to this adaptation, the book trilogy, and Tencent's "Three Body," and says this time around, the problem is Netflix, not Chinese viewers.

I finished #3BodyProblem last night. It's dogshit. 0/10 I hate it. If you're a fan of the books watch #ThreeBody on Prime instead. It's a very good representation of the books. If you just like random Game of Thrones actors doing their best with a god awful script that is tangentially related to the books, I guess sure check out 3BP, I'm not your dad.

I’m finding the Legend of Shen Li a bit hard to get into despite great acting of the leads.

However, one big plus is that unlike other recent offerings, the cgi is Star-Wars-level good.

There’s gods racing amidst floating mountains to a rather hilarious phoenix-chicken avatar of titular Shen Li, a pompous lord of War.

On Threads, one argument I keep seeing Taiwanese people make regarding their perceived “overreaction” to China is “we’re not the one with all the power to annihilate the other side & keep making threats to actually do so”.

Feels like this argument could apply to Malaysian racial politics as well. Tired of seeing people using both-side-isms when one side has all the political power and can freely make threats of violence while everyone else has to grovel and try not to “overreact”.

“The success of Threads in Taiwan shows that politics is still one of the main reasons people come to a text-based social network, but it also highlights Meta’s uncomfortable relationship with political content on its platforms.”
