Rosa Update!

Yesterday marks 13 weeks since Rosa arrived at Bradford Cat Watch Rescue & Sanctuary with horiffic burns to her head and all 4 legs. Her legs and head have miraculously healed so well however her eyes are still badly affected.

In just 6 days time Rosa will undergo groundbreaking surgery with David and Gemma at Northcote Veterinary Surgery to hopefully mend her beautiful face.

More details on our blog 😻

We do not check the refrigerator multiple times to see if different food has magically appeared.

We check the fridge multiple times to see if our standards have lowered to the point where we’ll eat what’s there.

For those wondering, ′′how did i do it?":
I boiled 10L of water, added 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 1 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate, two cups of coke, and half cup of lemon juice, then stirred well. Waited 3 minutes, put the pan in the solution for 45 minutes, then added a quarter cup of chlorine bleach to the mixture. Then I brushed it with a firm toothbrush and put it back into the liquid for another 25 minutes. I took it out, rinsed it, and it looked exactly the same, so I threw it away, and went and bought a new one.

Edit: Please don’t actually make this concoction! The resulting mixture may produce poisonous gases! This toot is a joke, the pictures are not even my pans. I didn’t throw any pans away. Following these directions, despite the fact it probably won’t do anything useful, would be fucking stupid and you may win a Darwin Award.

I keep Facebook as I follow some groups on chess, to keep track of my family across the globe, and to network where I now live in Tasmania. My favourite aspect is the memories. Today's memory for me was very poignant. I wrote it when my Dad had passed away, but my Mum was still alive, though she has since also passed away. It's not their anniversary today, but the cake in the photo shows their long life together 🙂

"Today is VE Day, and while I'm not usually one to focus too much on remembrance days, I'm thinking about how Britain, and other countries went to war because of the invasion of Poland. After those terrible war years, my Mum and Dad coming from different backgrounds, nationalities and cultures, were brought together in that post war period and an Anglo-Polish family began. It makes me think how much better this world would be if people didn't judge other people based on where they're from, or what they have, or how they look or sound. VE was a win against Fascism and the bigotry and hatred that those regimes implemented. I'm seeing a rise in bigotry and hatred again, and I hope we can rise against it so the sacrifices made by those during the 1939-1945 war weren't in vain."

Why do we still live in a world where I can't independently configure my laptop display and external monitor's scaling (100% and 150% respectively) in ? Or is this just an Ubuntu/Kubuntu problem?

Under X11 both displays sync their scaling settings (awful experience when you have a 4K panel). And with Wayland both displays end up blurry, even after a reboot.

I'm using the HP Dev One.

Are there easy workarounds or should I finally make the permanent switch to ?

Bruh, I just want a fuckin' PC LMAO if it works, it works! I'm honestly not too picky.

Obviously, I run #Linux so I prefer #AMD, here. Still, though, I can live with either.

Got seven cams running to take photos of satellites.

Cloudy, but getting better and supposed to be clear by morning, so should be able to get some decent pics.

jebba,

Just got a huge bright train of sats, but I'm not sure what they are.

A whole bunch starting 7xxxx, which afaik isn't used yet. Will need to poke into it, maybe temporary IDs.

I also got THIS beauty; been sitting on the idea for a while and finally went for it. Since my Lamy vamoosed, I needed a good bombproof daily writer, and I've heard good things about twsbi.

I adore it. I want to sleep cuddling it, clipped onto my shirt.

The Fediverse when any change is made or announced: episode 348348

Eramdam,

Quote posts won't destroy Mastodon or whatever, feel free to prove me wrong if they're implemented in a dumb way (i.e without user-level controls).

Groups are fine, not something i'd use but i see nothing wrong about them.

The onboarding flow change isn't for the people who have been here for 6 years and the official apps aren't the only way to use Mastodon so who cares.

I'm more concerned about search but again, some people need it in order to be visible/reachable and as long as users can still choose to be excluded I don't see the issue.

I know we love to yell at Eugen every other week but we can't be yelling "ppl are going elsewhere!!" while also hissing like angry cats at every attempted to try to attract people. Y'all are acting like the Linux forum posters yelling at people for wanting to run Photoshop or have audio control on their distro after coming from Windows. :dont_at_me:

Eramdam,

To harp on the onboarding stuff because i know people will give me shit for it: like really I don't care and i know why people are angry about it. But y'all have to come to peace with the fact that "choose a server from a list" is a hurdle for many people, most of whom would probably enjoy being here. Y'all can't expect anybody having to learn how this network works to even try to use it.

Obviously I hope mastodon.social gets the necessary resources to handle the new users' influx and that's another discussion but on its face it's not a stupid change, it's a realistic one (imo).

A gentle reminder that IoT, health tech, and other devices are accessibility devices for many people.

Yes, the stove with WiFi.
Yes, the heart rate tracker.
Yes, the camera on the door.
Yes, the speech assistant.

Abstinence-only education doesn't work for infosec either.
You can only help to create alternatives if you acknowledge that disabled people exist, use tech, and understand privacy.

Don't be condescending. Be curious.

I tooted Hello World on November 30, 2022.

Then I began tooting my and a ton of , and . And you all responded so genuinely, and with such positivity, that I very quickly was made to feel at home.

My deepest gratitude goes out to the community, a that has literally improved the quality of my time on this spinning rock as it hurtles through space, towards a future that seems more uncertain every day. It’s unlike any other “social media platform” here.

Today, I celebrate the arbitrary milestone of five thousand followers, and I just wanted to say thank you.

Thank you for the favourites, the boosts, the follows, and the comments.

Thank you for your conversations, discussions, and corrections.

Thank you for listening to my music and sharing your thoughts on it with me, and for following along on your chosen streaming service. This has been amazing.

But, above all, I’d like to thank you all for making Mastodon the friendly and welcoming place that it is. My experience here is one of wonderful acceptance, and it has been truly humbling. There is nowhere else quite like it.

Massive big huge love to you all,
