Amazon Prime Video subscribers are about to see even more ads. In January, viewers who didn't pay an additional $3 a month started to see commercials. Now, Amazon has announced that it's adding what it describes as shoppable carousel ads, interactive pause ads and interactive brand trivia ads. Here's more from Ars Technica. So far, Amazon Prime Video has not gotten to my drop it threshold, but it is trying to get there.

Netflix is trying to get there are well, but I get Netflix for free through my cell phone provider, so they safe for now at least.

Just in the last month;

  1. Physical machine booting up, getting a valid IP address and route from DHCP but being able to ping anything on the internet.
  2. VM SSH'ing to a specific IP address but getting to a machine with a different IP address.
  3. Deleting a file (successful) but still seeing the file on the filesystem with a 6 month old timestamp.

Been intentionally breaking things in my home lab to practice / learn new technologies. I am a human chaos monkey at times. 🤣

Folks, I'm starting my post-#PhD job search low-key on the side while I write up my #thesis.

I have an odd collection of skills - #Linux, #Python, #Jupyter, #pandas, #DevRel, and I've done a lot of work in team leadership and management, and have led a multi-million $ not for profit in the past. Keynote speaker.

My speciality is #voice and #speech AI, more on the #ASR side with models like #Whisper.

I'm looking for something that harnesses all of these skills - and it will be a senior role with senior pay, given my experience, qualifications and proven capability. I have time and will be discerning about my next step.

Job titles that might fit here would be Senior Research Engineer, Engineering Lead, Lead AI Engineer or similar.

Looking for fully remote work, with one day a fortnight max in #Melbourne, AU. If you don't believe in #RemoteWork or #WFH, we're not a good fit.

Super keen on something full time rather than splitting my attention over multiple part-time roles.

Looking to start around August, so a fair amount of lead time.

Keen on organisations that have strong values alignment - #FAIR and #CARE data use, #EthicalAI, AI for social good.

No crypto, no web3, no deepfake stuff.

I am not so sure about that. 30 years ago Eliza was about the best you could get for "therapy" chat bots, now there are things like Replika, Elomia, Mindspa, etc. We have come a long ways in the last 30 years. Note that I am not saying good, just that we have come a long way.

It is implying that areas without "infected" herds are actually infected, but not being recorded or tracked.

Well your travelling companions left the plane, so the airline company is not responsible. And we really didn't need those parts, afterall the plane continued to fly all the way to the ground, didn't it?

It's a slow day here at work. So I decided to embrace being an agent of chaos and update my main system to Fedora 40 on day one of release.

Time will tell if today remains a slow day.

Server edition didn't do it, but when I ran dnf update there were over 100 packages to be updated / installed. With the load their servers and CDNs must be under right now, I am gonna guess it would have taken quite a bit longer than most administrators / end users are comfortable waiting on a fresh install.

Well I didn't find a good log to monitor it, but I was able to confirm that it really is updating the system and the updates were pretty time consuming.

I used the live workstation image and told it to do the install. After first boot, packagekit ran for about 30ish minutes, and then another 5ish minutes when I used the UI to perform a poweroff as there were more updates still.

Will be interesting to watch how this plays out. Not many people are doing it yet, but I can see a lot of developers, in the future, using LLMs / AI to learn to program. Never actually using the code provided bu the LLM, but learning from it and writing their own based on their understanding of it.

Also understand that the bulk of Gentoo's code base is direct upstream project repositories... If the upstream allows direct LLM code, will Gentoo drop that package?

Trump is upset he may miss his son's graduation because he's on trial.

Yeah, we do treat people in the criminal justice system harshly. People you have never thought about, people who have kids, and graduations, and moments missed forever.

But it's different now. He cries. It's happening to ME. To Me!

Nothing, no one, exists beyond the tip of some people's noses. They cannot see pain unless they feel it. Cannot recognize suffering unless it's their own.

What a stunted perspective.

Perhaps you can answer this for me. Assume for a moment that there is a single person who manages to make it to the jury who absolutely refuses to accept a guilty verdict, that would sink the case... Are there are any realistic remedies for this and how could this situation be brought to light?

Please note I have never been selected to sit for jury so I only have what was taught back in high school in the '80s which didn't cover a situation like this.
