https://www.postfix.org/smtp-smuggling.html

"SMTP Smuggling" vulnerability in Postfix allows to spoof senders even in the presence of some DMARC checks. Configuration workarounds exist.

Also, a wholehearted f* you to SEC Consult, who sat on this since June and disclosed it to some closed-source vendors and MSPs, but could apparently not be bothered to give e.g. Postfix a heads-up, publishing this close to the holidays.

Boosts for awareness welcome.

@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@jssfr Oh, thank you Jonas, this is interesting. It is curious SEC Consult claim responsible disclosure, but only to a subset of those platforms affected by this spoofing attack.

Why do some websites not have one or more feeds. Do they feel they will get more traffic forcing people to visit their site everyday? Is it ad related? Not sure how to implement? Perhaps just don’t know about RSS feeds (feeds are old school right?)

Does your site have an RSS Feed (please boost)?

Settling into again… I noticed 2 things that irk me:

  1. I understand why, but it would be so nice to use my own cloud service for the Firefox Sync settings.
  2. Why are Firefox data collection settings opt-out? They should be opt-in. I get why they do it, but it’s wrong.

Yes, much much much better than Chrome, but some room for improvement perhaps? If anyone has suggestions regarding sync settings, please post.

Reading ‘Why Tailwind CSS Won’ and was caught off-guard by this comment from Matt Rickard “few developers are writing HTML (instead, they are writing JSX or TSX).” What do you write mostly?

Migrating from a site to Wordpress. We have custom importers working very nicely, but, we are really struggling to fully understand the new Gutenberg blocks. It appears that NASA in their new website had a similar lack of docs.

My question to all Mastodonians… where is some really good current up-to-date docs/tutorials on understanding and using the power of the Gutenberg blocks?

In a quick review of Insomnium, Bruno and Httpie:

didn’t import any of the postman collection auth data, it appears it won’t import/export HAR files, and I don’t see a timeline for a request. Could be I just didn’t see these features.

Insomnium imports collections with all the data, handles HAR files nicely and has a very detailed timeline.

imports fine, has a semi detailed timeline, and has some HAR support which I couldn’t figure out.

Currently is my fave.

Is there an app (prefer macos if possible) for that lets one map a persons location (lived/worked etc) over time. Such that you show on a map where everyone in the tree lived at any given point in time? Using Reunion which allows for entering locations, but I don't see a way to view a point in time with everyone on it.

Back in ’94 I had a roomate for around 3 weeks. He was a busker and performed in various pubs around Montreal. He was, to this day, without a doubt the best classical jazz flamenco guitarist I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. He would often play so intensly that he would pass/grey-out. I knew him simply as “Yanni” or “Yanny”. He played as cutaway 6 string classical guitar. He left while I was travelling and I never saw or heard from him again. (1/2)

One of my earlier PRs was to the docs, to add a short description for a method that was overlooked in Laravel v3 or v4. I spent ages trying to make sure it was perfect. Then waited anxiously for it to be approved or commented on. Instead, Taylor deleted it and then had some one else do the issue. I’ve not bothered trying to help Laravel since. 😒 Love Laravel, but that put me off in a big way. I now spend my time doing PRs for those that appreciate them instead.

After doing some research online, it appears these two companies are fairly well respected for GitHub repository backups:

GitProtect
Cloudback

Any mastodon recommendations, comments, feedback, or preferences for other backup plans?

Over 150 repositories and growing. Not looking to script our backups, need ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 compliance.

If you use brew’s curl on macOS, are you really using it? I installed and had curl setup a couple of years ago. Today it appears that curl was now pointing to Apple’s version, which has this issue (https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2024/03/08/the-apple-curl-security-incident-12604/). Looks like brew doesn’t add a symlink for curl to /opt/homebrew/bin. Running ln -s /opt/homebrew/opt/curl/bin/curl /opt/homebrew/bin resolved the issue.

After using TablePlus for around 3 years, is this still a good app to use? Are there newer better alternatives.

It’s renewal time and I’d like to check-in on other apps before upgrading.

Feedback welcome.

PHPStorm diagrams are a big finicky and it has issues with a lot of tables and organizing things. does a great job with the diagrams and keeps linked tables close together, as well as highlights the columns in each table when you click on a connecting line.

Going to give DBeaver a run for a bit.

Saw this on the newsletter (admit I mostly signed up for tips at the bottom), and looks like Jason doesn’t post on Mastodon… yet :) so posting here. Have to admit, I’ve had a hankering for something like a .laravel file a few times now.

Just saw that bought apps. Canva is entirely a subscription model. One of the big things about Affinity is that is is not a subscription model. The way the press release reads, it seems like Affinity will become a subscription model. You can count me out of that should it happen.

I'm starting to wonder why my podcast feed isn't now full of podcasts about surviving the mid-life developer crisis. With topics like:

  • What am I going to do for the next 15 years before I retire?
  • How do I work with all these young people who know more than me (but lack the wisdom of years)
  • How do I stop feeling bad that I have no spare time for hacking/side-projects/gaming because I have kids who need to be taken to their swimming class and stuff.

Seriously?

And no, I won’t.

outofcontrol,

@ross 55+ here, self employed, worked from home since 1994. Pretty certain I am not employable anymore in the corporate scene. Actually, pretty certain I never was, hence the DIY approach. Currently have around 5 steady clients, and several “ideas” which I will probably die with. Figure another 10-15 years before I can retire the way I want. But… I don’t see retirement as not working, but doing what I love, which will be some sort of coding/sysadmin/tinkering.

Thinking about migrating from Dropbox. It's been stable and awesome for the last decade or so, so I've never looked too closely at alternatives. Suggestions?
