I’m surprised it took this long to hit the news, because fake-human porn was always going to be the first thing to come out of image generators.

And so of course there’s the much more problematic generated CSAM. We need to make this illegal too, otherwise we’ll have to let employers, police, prosecutors, and juries all make judgment calls about which images are real children, which might already be impossible.

I imagine that with the tail end of the post WW2 generation retiring, the leading edge of the baby boom will be selling housing. Because of demographics we should have excess housing in just a few years. Right? Prices drop, people move up, entry housing appears again, and new housing is built on existing lots with older homes. Hoping we won’t have to pay people to take them as Italy is doing. https://assortedflotsam.com/@NewsBot/112510400384472436

I made an account on lemmy.world and logged in so I could subscribe to some news communities. Now I have a nice news feed in a browser tab.

Create an account, verify email address, log in on the web.

As with Mastodon, you need only one account to access the whole world.

There is supposed to be a way to subscribe via Mastodon without registering, but it didn’t work for me.

SARS-CoV-2 attacks the mitochondria in cells, depleting their energy.

"researchers found that the virus blocks specific genes that use oxygen to create ATP, forcing the body to deplete finite energy reserves in the body. Without an energy source, cells throughout the body begin to starve, with the cells powering the brain and the heart suffering the most.”

I guess I need to extract myself from Gmail. (Should do anyway for obvious reasons.) It now won’t deliver email I send to myself from a domain I own. And it doesn’t even make it into the spam box. And there aren’t any controls for this AFAICT. 🤬

How about auto-hyphenate for mobile text editors?

Not sure how = and * got buried so deep in the iOS keyboard, either, but we have room for frequent symbols now on the surface of most devices, so wouldn’t that be great.

Always-visible Return key…begging already.

My theory is that the edges of trees are actually invisible to us, so they are touching (on both ends, obvs), but not in a way we can see. What they are not doing is fighting each other for the light. They are optimizing and cooperating. https://toot.lgbt/@book/111749320285900616

High property taxes support schools. Lotteries support schools. Federal gov supports school food. And yet we have “lunch debts” for poor families and expect the child labor and lemonade stands market to pay them off. SMH.

Racists, sexists, antivaxxers, etc. are unhappy with “woke" chatbot answers and want to make reflect their biases. If successful, Musk et al could make a powerful disinformation engine.

This battle is time-crucial and starkly illustrates humanity’s potentially fatal flaw: many people are irrational, so we cannot agree on a baseline reality. By weaponizing and electing disinfo and antiscience, the delusional can destroy civilization.
