My favorite thing about tech is every few years there's some new overhyped technology that results in a bunch of people picking $thing and founding a company that does $thing with $technology, without any understanding of either, or a single clue what problem they're trying to solve.
They'll literally be like "we're disrupting the dog food industry with ChatGPT" and their product will be like a $99/month subscription service for a LLM that reminds you to remind your dog to eat.
Do I have this straight... the US is air-dropping aid bc a country won't stop bombing long enough to let the US in to offer humanitarian aid on the ground, but the US supplied the weapons to the country that won't stop bombing
#Thrift find of the day. A still-working Michael Graves teapot. I love Graves’s whimsical postmodern style and have been in several of his buildings. The little whirligig spins when it boils.
This is amazing. Apparently CEO’s of food companies (probably ones who produce a lot of processed food) have been calling the head of Ozempic’s parent company, freaked out that people might stop getting fat eating mass quantities of their food. #ozempic
It’s that time of year again, when the excellent Amtrak 30 day, 10 segment USA rail pass is on sale. Only $450! I’ve done it before, and it’s amazing. #rail#train#travel
Someone really rich, related to someone really powerful, just died, possibly because Tesla tried to save a buck on their $80K SUV and not install a normal shift stalk, and I hope they sue the shit out of #Tesla.
I had no idea they got rid of the shift stalk in the Model X, replacing it with this nonsense. I’d never buy a car with such bad #UI.
Damn, watch this Rivian absolutely destroy several barriers. Amazingly, the cab is still intact after hitting it at 60mph. Small vehicles would be absolutely obliterated. #EV
Love the title of this article. “Artificial Investment”
The hype train for #AI seems to be hitting the very solid wall of reality. I’m not saying it doesn’t do some cool stuff, I just think that no one is paying the true cost of the product right now, legal matters are absolutely not settled, and literally no one knows exactly how much energy it’s consuming.
I picked up a friend from the Boise airport tonight. When I walked up to the waiting area there was an excited-looking young man with flowers in his hand. A tall, handsome man exited the terminal security doors, the young man handed him the flowers, and then they kissed for about ten seconds. It made me feel just a little better about Idaho, even if only for a little while.
“An analysis of 25 car brands released by Mozilla Foundation last fall gave them the worst privacy and security grades of any product ever reviewed by the San Francisco-based nonprofit.”
I really hate my car being constantly connected to the company’s cloud.
I had someone telling me about how electric cars are always burning houses down, and I'm like, “Uh, I've had 6 EV now over the past 12 years, and no one I know has had their EV burn their house down.” It does happen, but it’s pretty damn rare. By comparison, fried turkeys burn down 900 houses per year, lol. #EV
There once was a douche from Nantucket, saw a beach in his Cybertruck and said “fuck it”, he sank in the muck, while people yelled, “you suck”, now he’s digging it out with a bucket.
