If ever #Guppe shuts down after May 31, 2023, know that we already have chirp.social groups for the following topics:

I. Topic / category
@-autistsics@chirp.social
@-books@chirp.social
@-animation@chirp.social
@-anime@chirp.social
@-comics@chirp.social
@-movies@chirp.social
@-tv@chirp.social

II. Music industry
@-ppop@chirp.social
@-kpop@chirp.social
@-jpop@chirp.social
@-cpop@chirp.social

III. Asian dramas
@-pdrama@chirp.social
@-kdrama@chirp.social
@-jdrama@chirp.social
@-cdrama@chirp.social

Just remove the hyphen.

It is highly advisable that we always tag at least two similar groups (located on different servers) to ensure continuity of discussions in case one goes down. (If one goes down, then someone needs to create another duplicate located in another server for the exact same reason… continuity and redundancy.)

“Farewell to Guppe”

“Regretfully, then, we are left in the unsustainable state that the value Guppe provides to its community is insufficient to cover the cost of providing it. As a final opportunity to preserve Guppe, we have reduced the minimum contribution amount to join the Guppe Platform Cooperative to $2/month or $19/year. If Guppe cannot reach a level of funding to cover all of the hosting and a couple hours of administrative labor per month, then service at a.gup.pe will shut down on May 31st, 2023.”

Me: Pre-colonial times, the people of what we later known as “Filipinos” were already feared across what we know today as Asia-Pacific. Post-colonial times, Filipinos are still a force to reckon with, and they know to never wake the sleeping Philippine eagle if they want to keep the current status quo.

Let's volt in!

Check out the official music video of “Voltes V: Legacy”, the most-awaited live-action adaptation of the classic hit anime series “Voltes V” (超電磁マシーン ボルテスV)!

Invidious: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=EYGj7jJXX-M

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYGj7jJXX-M

  • Title: Voltes V No Uta
  • Performed by: Julie Anne San Jose
  • Composer: Kobayashi Aso
  • Produced by: Rocky S. Gacho

It will premiere this coming May 8, 2023 at 20:00 ACT (UTC+8), Monday to Friday. Total number of episodes is 80, and the dialogues will be in mix Philippine English and Filipino; with the Boazanians speaking in, well, Boazanian.

I'm not sure if any fansub group/individual will pick it up, but it will be very surprising if no one did. I'm not saying they should do it… but as much as the industry doesn't want to admit it, getting chosen by a fansub is good marketing and a good sign your production was good enough for them to voluntarily make good fansubs. Good, good? ;P

(PS. I'm just a regular excited fan sharing.)

This take is annoying.

But it's also not entirely @gruber's fault because the media doesn't really talk about the Fediverse, and when they do, it's as a synonym for "Mastodon".

How would @gruber know about the massive development efforts to build more user-friendly alternatives to Mastodon?

No one in the media talks about the growth of *key apps, and how they're now the #2 most used Fediverse platform.

That story isn't being told.

Glad you started it already! ^_^

Despite only being validated in February, I think Group federation has been a smashing success for the Fediverse.

I use Fediverse groups every day.

And if you’re interacting with this post, so are you.

Fediverse groups even make Mastodon that much more extensible despite Mastodon itself not officially supporting groups yet.

It will depend on the platform. For example, (and to an extent and ), the owner of the group (and anyone else given moderation access) can block accounts. There is also chirp.social which can also block accounts.

Then there is , which is a rebranded itself a rebranded (the first software, c. 2008) have built-in groups feature; which IIRC, can also block users if needed.

Personally, services like Guppe really need to add moderation features, otherwise, what you just described will more likely happen.

The young adult, apocalyptic K-drama “Duty After School” (방과 후 전쟁활동 파트) recently concluded, and it only received a lot of negative feedback because of the way the live-action adaptation ended the story.

Fortunately, there are at least five possible alternate endings. This was presented by JasonMay in the article entitled “Duty After School: Exploring Alternate Endings for the Heart-Wrenching K-Drama”. Read: https://www.moving-stories.net/duty-after-school-exploring-alternate-endings-for-the-heart-wrenching-k-drama/

Check it out, and maybe, you'll appreciate the live-action adaptation if you choose one of the five alternate endings.

Yoo In Na deserves the Best Actress award for this show, especially for episode 05. She perfectly captured and portrayed a person who loves their ex deeply, gave everything, and only to be dumped later for someone else.

It was as if Yoo In Na experienced it herself. She cried naturally, was she still acting? She showed her character's desperation, she shook, her body movements and facial expressions were exactly what it is in real life.

And that's just the character she's playing. We haven't even started talking how great the show is in pacing and focusing on what a person goes through when heartbroken. From break-ups, refusing to accept their new reality, to moving-on, and to picking the pieces of their broken heart. And we're only at episode 5 and 6.

100 out of 10 stars.

Today in Labor History April 27, 1521: On this day, Philippine Natives fought the battle of Mactan against Ferdinand Magellan. Lapulapu’s warriors ambushed him and overpowered the Spanish forces. They killed Magellan with a poison arrow. Their victory delayed Spanish colonization of the Philippines by forty-four years. For centuries, native Muslim Filipinos fought wars against their Spanish rulers. The Spanish saw these as a continuation of the Reconquista of Spain from the Moors. They brought in conscripts from Mexico and Latin America, including many Native Americans. Mortality was high on both sides. Many conscripts fled into the countryside, or joined with the Filipino forces. Yet, despite all the slaughter and repression of Native Filipinos, the colony was never profitable to Spain. During the 1800s, Filipino immigrants fought alongside Latin Americans in their wars for independence from Spain. In 1896, Filipinos fought their own war for independence from Spain.

When the U.S. initially landed in the Philippines, in 1898, they supported Filipinos in their uprising against Spain. However, by August, 1898, the U.S. had ended their collaboration with Native Filipinos and soon annexed the country. American rule was brutal. In 1899, American went to war against their colonial subjects. The war was far deadlier and more costly than their war against Spain. 4,200 American soldiers, up to 20,000 Philippine soldiers, and at least 200,000 civilians died.

The Japanese occupation during World War II was also brutal. In the most infamous example, 10,000 Filipino and 1,200 U.S. soldiers died in the brutal Bataan Death March. However, during the occupation, Filipino guerillas fought an insurgency against the Japanese. Consequently, the Philippines became the costliest theatre of war for the Japanese. Nearly 500,000 Japanese died fighting in the Philippines. But it was much worse for Filipinos, with over 1 million dying during World War II. The Battle of Leyte Gulf, toward the end of World War II, was the largest naval battle in history.

A great summary by @MikeDunnAuthor .

To share for the latter part, our grandfather was a WW2 war veteran, and a survivor. He was one of those who defended the Island of Corregidor, surrendered, and then forced to what we call today the Death March.

After it, they reformed into various guerilla factions and continued the fight for Philippine independence.

Me, my cousins (many of whom are contributors to the successes the are enjoying today), my mom and her siblings, my brother, my sister and her two beautiful daughters, we all wouldn't be here today if he did not survive and was not randomly pulled out of the line of the infamous Death March.

This is that should never be forgotten. It is not just his-story, it is our story. The story of this great nation and its resilient people the .

I don't think people are realising the danger the Fediverse is in.

The only thing stopping corporations and VCs taking over this place is that the Fediverse is spread out on many different servers, which makes it very difficult to purchase.

If most of the Fediverse ends up on mastodon.social, which is now a strong possibility, there will be nothing to stop most of it being sold to Musk or Zuckerberg or whoever.

The bigger mastodon.social becomes, the more likely a buyout is to happen.

(1/4)

youronlyone,
@youronlyone@c.im avatar

@feditips Hence, we should and constantly inform everyone that there is a world out there.

But how can we make people explore the fediverse when:

  1. People falsely assume that is the / . That's like saying is .

  2. When something is lacking in Mastodon, people assume it is the Fediverse / ActivityPub that is lacking. That is like saying chicken is the worst food because you've tasted McDonald's chicken, when there 's is tastier and juicier.

There are now even people who praise a non-fediverse network based on those false assumptions above. They have time to research a non-fediverse network, but doesn't have the time to do their due diligence about the Fediverse; all because they falsely assumed they've seen everything.

It's like moving to a new country, settling in a new home, exploring their new neighbourhood, and then assumed that village they're in is a representation of the entire country.

If we can make people see, and make people explore their own “city” and “country”, then maybe, just maybe, the distribution of people in the fediverse will start to balance between the different forks, projects, and instances. It won't happen overnight, but maybe we can plant the seeds.

youronlyone, to internet
@youronlyone@c.im avatar

All these talk about #BlueSky and complaints about #Mastodon this, #ActivityPub that, #Fediverse this, and #Decentralisation that, are mostly questionable(?) since many haven't seriously looked around the fediverse. It's like saying burgers are bad because you've tasted McDonald's yet there are better burgers from #Jollibee.

#AccountPortability (#NomadicIdentity)? Check out #Hubzilla and #Streams (the latter is in the #PublicDomain). #QuotePosts / #QuoteReplies? There is #Calckey, #Akkoma, Hubzilla, Streams, to mention a few. Oh! Many Mastodon forks have it as well. You want a #Twitter-like UI/UX? Use Akkoma or #Rebased. What else?

The problem stems from the fediverse ending up unofficially represented by a very limited-feature software and most are not willing to do their due diligence (one would think they'll check out the forks at least). Before championing about the new kid on the block, before claiming that the fediverse is this and that, look around first.

What you've known as the fediverse, so far, is only based on what happens to be the software with the least feature set. Mainline Mastodon will get better, but it is what it is currently, as far as comparison with similar fediverse projects.

No one is saying you are not allowed to complain, just look around first before you make claims about the fediverse.

Also, no one is saying #ATP shouldn't exist. By all means develop it! Innovation and improvements come from seeing ideas come to fruition instead of staying as theories. Having different branches of development is better than getting stuck in one particular way of doing things, or line of thinking. It's all good and I think anyone will agree it is much welcomed.

Here's a #challenge: Since you have time to research a non-fediverse network, why don't you explore what the fediverse really has to offer, with the same effort and enthusiasm? Mastodon is not the fediverse, so you can not judge the fediverse based on it. That's like saying China is Asia, and you judge Asians because of mainland China.

Take the challenge, then publish the results of your journey. Good evening, and Shalom!

In , the phrase “observable universe” came into use to describe what we can see/observe from our vantage point.

The fediverse has grown so big since its humble beginnings in 2008. My guess is, we are only seeing 0.5% of what it is today. That is your “observable fediverse”, relative from your account.

  1. The instances your instance are aware of.
  2. The remote users your local instance natives are replying/boosting.
  3. The remote users you, yourself is following.
  4. And the remote users being boosted/replied to by the remote users you are following.

Those are the only ones in your . My observable fediverse is different from your observable fediverse. I am seeing content you are not seeing, and vice versa.

Just like how improving our technologies help us expand our . We need to grow our network to expand our relative observable fediverse.

The only difference between observable universe and observable fediverse is that, we still haven't found life on other planets; but in the fediverse, we already did (see: https://c.im/@youronlyone/110159720528061374).

If I will a software that needs support (developer and financial(?)), it is .

Plume is “a federated blogging application”. Basically, it is a blogging software that was made for the fediverse network.

Features I like:

  1. It has comments. The comments also pulls from the fediverse.
  2. Collaborative writing.
  3. License chooser

The project is currently on hiatus, as per the status update on the official website: https://joinplu.me

> Currently, Plume developers have less time and Plume is not actively maintained. New features may take time to be implemented. Could you consider similar purpose software: WriteFreely.

It would be great to see Plume back in action.

If there are developers looking for a project, take into consideration.
