@taylorlorenz Elon spent $44B for the engineers, the user base, the technology, and the brand that was Twitter.
He fired the engineers and alienated the user base, his competitors duplicated the technology, and he's now giving the brand the ol' heave-ho. He even said he was going to take blowtorches to the building signs (what buildings? He keeps getting evicted).
There's nothing left from his original purchase; he's blowtorching it in the most literal way I can imagine.
@taylorlorenz ...and then we find out that #Elon didn't check to see if the trademark for #X was available in the US (it isn't, Meta owns it), or in Japan (it isn't, a Japanese rock band owns it), or if he needed to get a permit to swap out the signs on #Twitter HQ (he does and the police shut him down with two letters to go).
Is there a more blatant example of someone thinking they can just do whatever they want because they have money?
I just tried to take a look at the new Twitter. I guess you need to create an account to look at the mess they got going on over there. As Dana Carvey might have said, "Not gunna do it."
@taylorlorenz I wish Threads and/or Mastodon could truly replace Twitter. But alas. The siloing of groups across the world will make it easier for fascism to grow.
