Its flagship news programme gets the first account: @tagesschau.
On #Twitter the #Tagesschau has 4 million Followers, I am curious, how much it gets here and how fast. Could give us a hint on how active the german community on #Mastodon still is. The inoffical @tagesschau had amassed 53k Followers, the other public broadcaster @ZDF 13k in three weeks.
Some days ago, the ones responsible told me, that this is an experiment. They want to try it out, and see where it goes. There are no explicit goals, but they will track, how many visitors will come to their site through the links posted here.
Really exciting development! I'm looking forward to televised shows no longer ending with "you can also follow us on [list corporate social media]" ... but "here's our fedi handle"!

Sure they do. It's not like they are amateurs, they just need some time to get started.
I think it is going to be interesting, Heise did a review of theirtraffic source and Mastodon was much more effective than Twitter. I am curious how this will go for non tech news. I am however very sure it will be similar.
@Fripi the other side of the coin is that Mastodon's follower quality and engagement metrics are only high because it is still rather niche. #EternalSeptember will always bring down those numbers, if (or when) that happens.
