@killyourfm Heck, even some distros that use Calamares (like my current daily driver EndeavourOS) are so much easier than Windows 11! (EndeavourOS does disable Bluetooth by default on a freshly-installed system, but it's literally a one line command to re-enable it.) And I'll take that over the spyware that is Windows 11 any day!
@killyourfm I have had this issue with Windows 10 and Fedora 37. If I had been in Windows 10 I'd have do go back in and turn off the wifi then restart into Fedora. I haven't noticed it yet since upgrading to Fedora 38.
And apparently Windows 11 makes it even more frustrating to dual-boot with #Linux.
In my experience anyway, both #Fedora and #Kubuntu couldn't see my PC's Wifi module until I booted into Windows 11, enabled Hibernation, and then disabled Fast Startup.
@killyourfm Dunno, tried searching it up but got lots of jargon. Not much of an expert with troubleshooting with hardware. Anyways, I find that EndeavourOS and Win11 play slightly nicer and the issue doesn't happen as often unless my laptop came from a long sleep.
For some people though, they'll find it rather annoying, and, like me, might not be able to understand how to fix it.
@killyourfm I installed windows 11 in a VM because I had to use a piece of proprietary software. After hours of installation, you get spammed with thousands of questions.
Who thinks an installation of Windows is done in half an hour or less will be surprised. It took me about three hours to get a usable system.
@killyourfm
I have plain Ubuntu 23 without any Windows dualboot and it too struggles with finding my WiFi module, I'm afraid. From what I've read, that too is due to Fast Startup.
@FartsMusically It's a better installer, technically. But the amount of upselling for various Microsoft services and Windows options is borderline absurd now.
@xerz@killyourfm what Linux lacks is a Microsoft to lobby billions of dollars on its behalf on marketing deals and subsidies for game studios and hardware manufacturers.
@killyourfm@xerz and Al Gore won the 01 election. I'm aware of that universe. I hope to go there some day. They say Conan is still a Simpsons writer over there.
