@BBC_News_Labs A great step in the right direction. Hopefully some of the big names from the BBC will be here soon too. I’d love to see the likes of Greg James, Jordan North, Vick Hope and Mollie King here, as well as the official Radio 1 account.
@BBC_News_Labs Most servers have no tolerance rules toward posting transphobic content, not aure yozr experiment is going to last a long time before the only people who can read you are far right fuckers insulting you for not caving enough to their demands
@BBC_News_Labs a bit funny though that there's a twitter link (or X these days) and a github link under ghe "follow us" section of your homepage, but no Mastodon one (yet).

@BBC_News_Labs this is great! Mastodon is even better for individuals though, so it would be amazing to help some of your reporters to set up work accounts on the official domain to post their own stories and interact with their readers.
@NatureMC I'm seeing an "embed" option in the dropdown menu that appears in the lower right-hand corner of every toot. It gives you some html you can paste into things. I'll try it out now and see what happens:

I hope your low engagement with the fediverse will be considered as you evaluate the success or failure of this experiment. As it is, I get most of my BBC content on fediverse via bird.makeup bots. But it sure would be great to get it direct from social.bbc

@BBC_News_Labs Welcome to the fediverse! Please note that most instances have policies against transphobia (which BBC News has a bad history of) and trends politically left/anarchist (The Guardian, editorially, would be on the hard right and angling for a block by the standards of most Mastodon instances).
@BBC_News_Labs May I point out that in order to be successful on Mastodon, you're going to need to interact with people. The (new?) old days of posting into a void on Twitter don't work very well here.
If your experiment is going to succeed, I think you're going to need to try differing levels of engaging with your audience.
Also, there's already a bot account that's reposting BBC News articles that a lot of people follow. That might interfere with your findings if you don't address it.
I do really like some of the work of the BBC, which is why it's so difficult when folks in the fediverse are saying BBC corp publishes hurtful transphobic things.
I know you are not perfect, because you drove a lot of the brexit crap.
Please behave better on fedi, so you don't get unfederated, which will limit your desire for global reach.
Also please share lots of labs articles, the page linked was very interesting.
