I'm a little sad today. Not just for remembering the passing of Steve Jobs. But after almost a year of being here, I'm finally having to block trolls on Mastodon. Dammit.
These assholes should realize that I spent a decade working for Steve. So, this girl doesn't get intimidated.
And I almost pity the poor motherfuckers who try to mansplain Web browsers or video transcoding to me. Almost.
I have the impression, possibly incorrect, that the 1st generation iphone was a crappy phone (poor reception) and it had severe battery issues and that if anyone other then Steve "reality distortion field" Jobs had tried to sell it, every reviewer and techy would have laughed

@lisamelton One of the things I love about Mastodon is the tech talk that I can’t understand at all. It’s like watching folks speak a foreign language, but in English. 😅 None of it is condescending, and I truly find it humbling. As I reap the benefits of said technologies all day everyday. Cheers 🥂

@lisamelton Lisa, your tough. I would not have lasted 2 days working with Steve. Either he would have caught me before coffee and I would haves cowered till I could sneak out the back, or after too many pots and I would have unloaded on him and been escorted out.
He was one of a kind from everything I have read.
The trolls would never have made it past the front desk. Best to block and be done.

I was at Macworld in NYC one year (pretty sure it was 1999) and I recognized and met Douglas Adams before the keynote.
After the keynote I was on the show floor when Steve came through and in a moment of bold enthusiasm I said "Steve!" he turned and I held out my hand and he shook it not knowing who the hell I was but he smiled when I said it was an honor to meet him and quickly moved on.

Has anybody investigated using LLMs to automatically occupy replysplainers indefinitely? Just flag someone, and the swoops in to suck up all their time with an infinite automated stream of BS arguments? Seems like that would actually be a good use case for GPT.
All in all, it's only been few episodes. I'm not sure why I've been so lucky until today. It's possible I intimidate most of them. Because other girls are not so fortunate.

I'm sorry to learn you are having to endure the harassment of trolls, and -- ironically -- on Mastodon.
The only consolation I can offer -- not that you need some guy to assure you of anything, and especially a stranger -- is that those jerks are ignorant about your expertise and the subjects.
I think trolls lead miserable, lonely lives -- but it's just a personal theory. 😏

@lisamelton This is too vague a comment to have any opinions on. Are you shutting down trolls who are mocking A human being who died? Or dismissing real criticism of his business as "haters"? I have no idea who is in the wrong here.
@lisamelton I ask because of the standard in some communities calling dissenters " trolls". I would not say that about anyone to their friend though. That is at the very least inappropriate. But was just confused because Steve Jobs, as little as I know about him, seems to have had some detractors. Was wondering if they were just commenting valid points with no harassment on your posts- disagreeing with you, which is fine , or just harassing you randomly with hate , which is not fine of course.
