De gustibus etc. No platform is perfect. But I feel more comfortable there, and less like I'm likely to get screamed at for using Latin without a CW or something.
@socprof I feel like big accts need to be near other big accts to feel… big. popping in to reference mastodon scolds as an excuse (after not having been here all year) is a certain kind of in-group signaling at this point 🤷🏻♀️

Having dipped my toe in the BS waters, I get it. I prefer Masto but I missed some of the banter from the chattering class, though I always end up coming back here where it seems calmer somehow. And I’m hopeful all of these platforms remain dedicated to federation because it can essentially make the Masto-vs-BS-vs-Threads discussions mostly moot.
@seachanger@socprof What I really wish is that there were more cross posting among different federated platforms but I think that’s a couple of years away.
@seachanger@hikeofthemenrys All true but I kinda sorta resent the drive-by posts of "come follow me on this other platform because this one kinda sucks from what I saw a year ago". Like, no, dude, that's super entitled. We're not good enough for you to be here so you expect us to sign up for another platform to get the privilege of your insights. As much as I like(d) PH, hard no.
It's been a while since someone has complained to me about CWs. But there's definitely a subset of folks who make it their mission to complain about things You're Doing Wrong. I understand that it can get tiresome, especially for folks like yourself with lots of followers.
@nuintari Interesting question. I'm not certain CW scolding is any more preventable than people not using CWs "correctly" is preventable.
The same freedom and distributed admin oversight that lets people decide how they will CW their content lets people decide to be CW scolds. I suspect the closest thing to a "solution" is to block-and-move-on with CW scolds and let the lack of connections eventually freeze them out.
@nuintari@mark I've never understood why - if people start telling me off then I am happy to just block. I've no idea why some people find it so offputting

I had noticed that Ken was posting more on BluesSky than here along with a number of other accounts. and it’s not about “clout”, it’s about people being shitheads to them, and these are not people who have thin skins (scalzi, gaiman, stonekettle) just to name a few.
Having Said That, we’ll see what happens with BS. Mastodon is improving, and it’s no skin off my ass to have a BS account to follow up on a few people.
@NorCal_Lynne@Popehat given what little I've seen about their tech stack... I strongly doubt they're going to ever decentralize in the way fedi is. Especially not in a way that's compatible with ActivityPub.
@NoOneSpecial1@Popehat I'm no lawyer but "If you post any content to the Bluesky Web Services, you hereby grant Bluesky and its licensees a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive right and license to use" reads to me differently than what the article says.
To me it says "by posting you're letting us share your posts wherever, whenever and however we want without having to pay you"
IOW If you want them to share your content with other users you need to grant them license to do so.
@Popehat that's a shame. bluesky is low engagement if you don't already have an audience. If you just want to have people consume your output and tell you how much they love you, I imagine bluesky is the place to be so I don't blame you.
