Slowdive has followed in the line of Mission Of Burma, Dinosaur Jr.,& Quicksand, in that their “reunion” records were just as good, if not better, than their previous classic works.
In the case of Slowdive, this was the first in 22 years, & is STELLAR.
The same can be said of their latest album as well, which I also recently posted, & am still taking in.
Both albums make me appreciate the other that much more. #vinyl#vinylrecords#slowdive#shoegaze
@Whiskeyomega wait… there was an outer sleeve on yours and the sticker was on THE SLEEVE?!?!
What part of the world are you in?
Mine was just on the shrink wrap and was easily peeled. (I fucked up putting it on though) 😂
That looks like a harder PVC sleeve. Is it?
@SrRochardBunson this reminds me of how back in the day of really slow hard disk drives, some people would partition off their hard drive to have all of the system resources closer to the edge of the disks, because data around the edge gets read faster due to the speed relative to the read head being quicker than when it's closer to the middle
@andrew@vinylrecords Ah I filter my used fluid through a micro filter and put it back into an air tight container. It is a faff though for just one record, but a nice faff. I also tend to save up a few to do at a time though.
@andrew I use a fairly cheap Vevor ultrasonic cleaner and have been much happier with that than my old Spin Clean, which wasn’t bad itself. @vinylrecords
This album is potentially/already my most listened-to new release of the year, and it somehow keeps getting better. Spaced-out dub, mad scientist guitar work, folky campfire singalongs, music concrete, psychedelic jams.... it's all in here. It's been a very long time since I've felt that a "jamband" album was anywhere near this good. #TapersChoice#Jamband#PsychedelicMusic#Dub#banana#2023Music#vinyl#NowPlaying
@nikres@rowjimmy@drummmerandy just to round out the discussion, I'll note they have a bunch of live shows on YT, Archive and Nyctaper.com, and a series of releases on bandcamp. My single fav thing they've done is the first half or two thirds of this track, an extended jam out of Let Your Eyes Adjust To The Light
I'm Enjoying the parts more without Jason on the bass. It's just a drone but it's seems to have been remastered to bring it out and hasn't done a great job. One is the best track so far.
@MFDOOMALLCAPS Oh I’m rather familiar with a lot of their stuff, I’m just new to collecting it on vinyl. I will give those albums another go though, never been fussed on the studio stuff
Time to tap those toes! Join George Jetson and me for your Saturday night spin session (and recording of 'your daily soundtrack' post).
Live and in full effect 7pm to 10pm (pst) tonight. LP #CoverArt in a thread below this post. Big Love to the Mastodon Massive, going on a full year of posting here and leaving the bird behind!
As you may recall, Rockpile put out a bunch of records during their brief lifespan mostly not under the Rockpile name. Here's one of Edmunds' two.
This starts out with the one-two punch of Girls Talk (Elvis Costello) and Crawling from the Wreckage (Graham Parker) - Edmunds wasn't much of a songwriter, but he was an great interpreter & player.
Lot of those 16mm Brit Vids got drowned out pretty soon by the Major labels realizing MTV was a thing, and starting to give big bucks to Michael Jackson.
I was a PA on a Video for some local jazz/session player/zappa geeks thinking content hungry MTV would lap their video up when the majors announced their big plans in Billboard, which I relayed in a meeting, maybe you ought to enter it in the MTV Video contest instead. They did. They won.
I have one double LP where the sides are 1+4 and 2+3. I could have made sense of it if it were 1+3 and 2+4, as that would allow you to play it continuous if you have two turntables, but please help me make sense of 1+4 and 2+3? @vinylrecords#vinyl
@slevelt@vinylrecords
back in the day there were record players where you could put more vinyl slabs on a spindle for "continuous play", so you could play side 1+2 in a combo and 3+4 later.
@TheVinylApe@Tristananthony@Whiskeyomega I am in the process of sorting out my albums, I have run out of space in the room I use for records (floor space almost full). Removing duplicates and items I am unlikely to ever play again and moving them to the garage, should really start selling these. Image shows one wall with no available space (approx 3,000 albums stored in these), have additional storage with more albums on another wall and singles on the 3rd wall.
Just to make me feel really ancient I've seen a post announcing that #TempleofLove by #SistersofMercy is 40 years old today.
I shall give my copy a celebratory clean! #vinyl
@witewulf I think the last time I saw them before last year with Crazyhead and AAE was in Leicester, but wasn't sure if they did Rock City then too. Obviously not. My memory fails me!
