The new schedule reflects the array of #legal issues that #JudgeCannon has yet to resolve amid efforts by Trump’s legal team to #delay the #TrumpTrial.
[#Trump appointee] Judge #AileenCannon …recently scrapped the trial’s start date … in May & has not yet scheduled a new one. In doing so, she cited the “myriad & interconnected” legal issues she has yet to resolve.
It appears increasingly unlikely that the case will go in front of a jury before the election…. That is largely because of Cannon’s habit of holding time-consuming hearings on arguments raised by the defense that many other judges would have decided on the merits of written filings.
This decision isn't a shock. She's unqualified for the position she holds. She's going to side with #Trump at every possible opportunity. Her being a judge in one of his trials is a joke, and not the funny kind.
So despite being down a couple of clerks, Judge Cannon IS able to rule at light speed when she wants to (and it won’t speed the case getting to trial).

BTW, Aileen Cannon is a member of The Federalist Society, the same organization that was instrumental in the current composition of SCOTUS.

In an angry court filing, #Trump’s lawyers pushed back hard against the request by the office of the #SpecialCounsel, #JackSmith, to revise Trump’s conditions of release by forbidding him to make any public comments that might endanger federal agents working on the prosecution.
In their motion to Judge #AileenCannon in Federal Dist Court… #Trump’s attys said that Smith’s request was “an extraordinary, unprecedented & unconstitutional censorship application” that “unjustly targets President Trump’s campaign speech while he is the leading candidate for the presidency.”
Trump’s legal team said that #JackSmith’s request should be stricken from the docket & that he & his prosecutors should face #contempt sanctions for filing it….
He not only wants #Cannon to gag Trump for falsely accusing #Biden of #LockedAndLoaded#assassination plot, he does it reminding her of her own sanctimonious words about “Court’s independent obligation to protect the integrity … and to promote transparency in the Court’s oversight”

That revelation was among several cited by US District Judge Beryl Howell in a newly unsealed 2023 opinion that found prosecutors had presented compelling #evidence that #Trump#knowingly stashed #NationalSecurity docs in his home & then tried to conceal them when the #DOJ tried to retrieve them.
Throughout the opinion, Howell — who was chief judge of the Washington, DC federal district court at the time — described w/varying degrees of incredulity how 4 documents w/ classification markings could have been discovered in #Trump’s private quarters months after prosecutors had subpoenaed them & the #FBI conducted its own exhaustive search of the property.
“Notably, no excuse is provided as to how the former president could miss the classified-marked documents found in his own bedroom at Mar-a-Lago,” Howell wrote.
In a footnote, #Howell also noted that another #Trump adviser connected to his SaveAmerica #PAC had acknowledged scanning the contents of the box that contained the #classified materials in 2021 & storing them on a personal laptop provided by the PAC.
Howell’s opinion was unsealed along w/a large batch of other previously secret grand jury-related docs stemming from the investigation into #Trump for withholding reams of #ClassifiedDocuments after leaving office in 2021, incl’g some of the nation’s most sensitive #MilitarySecrets.
