Oh wow, that's a really nice passive matrix.

My 1995 passive 16-gray Dell "Avocado" 486 laptop was like looking through soup. It was so low contrast and streaky.
Of course, Windows 3.1 definitely flaunted the shades of gray, harming legibility a bit.

The orchard is quiet and still this morning. Harvest is behind us and we'll be irrigating tomorrow. But today is peaceful.

Daikon radishes reaching down into the soil about 4". The unexpected August rain will help with water infiltration this winter, and will probably add 500 to 1000 pounds of biomass per acre in our newest planting .

I always head for the most vulnerable spots in the orchard as soon as the sun's up after a cold night. Sure I'll find some damage, but first impression is positive. Still 30 degrees when the pic was taken.

Picked up 2 subs for after paddling eats. It's the original banh mi - only place I get it, in is -> https://alysapho.ca

I don't like how other places here make them. My fave place to buy is on Main St. in Vancouver Chinatown. I don't remember name of the place, know it by sight. My family bought from there since 80s & it's run by Teochew ppl from Cholon, Saigon, Vietnam. I can speak Teochew there; very few ppl speak my language in BC.

Giant next to some of our beehives. The rancher says the avocados are noticeably bigger next to our hives, and wants to distribute them across the orchard to try to increase the size if the rest of the ranch.

Avocado season has opened with a bang. These are Reed variety; the one on the scale weighs 36 ounces. Due to the mild winter of 2021 we had a lot more last year and they were all about half this size; we seem to be back to the usual "two or three ridonkulously huge avos per day" schedule this year.

"Recently, competition for control of the avocado, and of the resources needed to produce it, has grown increasingly violent, often at the hands of cartels."

A simple but delicious and healthy recipe I hope everyone tries at least once:

  • 1 med-sized avocado (120-160g)
  • 10g nutritional yeast
  • 1g ground salt
  • Some ground black pepper

Slice avocado as you would for guac and mix really well w other ingredients in a bowl. Mix until avocado is paste like or until there're chunks of the size you like. Either way make sure other ingredients are mixed in well.

<I'll add nutritional info when time permits>

Avocado that is soft but not actually ripe is the perfect example of over-promise and under-deliver.

New at my Patreon... At NGV International I saw art related to the darker side of the avocado - as a tapestry told the tale of deforestation, violence, and hope:

Avocado-Import innerhalb von zehn Jahren verfünffacht

Die Avocado ist in Deutschland seit Jahren im Trend. Doch der Erfolg der Frucht hat auch Schattenseiten - für Umwelt und Klima. Oft sind sie Tausende Kilometer unterwegs, bis sie im Supermarkt liegen.

A swarm has moved in on one of the #avocado trees planted last summer. We'll offer them better accommodations and see if they stick around.
