School Lunch Around the World - Not every country has the same recipe for brain food, by Andrew Coletti May 27, 2024
"...“School lunch is gross” is a longstanding cliche in American pop culture, and it seems just as relevant now as it was when I was a kid. In 2022, an anonymous New York City high schooler went viral for their Instagram documentations of school lunches that seemed baffling, nutritionally deficient, or just plain bad. One featured mozzarella sticks, two pieces of cauliflower, and a clementine, beside the word HELP scrawled in marinara sauce...."
And of course republicans begrudge the little bit of nutritionally useless junk American schools feed kids and would like to make kids go hungry all day.

Danes are the 3rd richest population in the EU and they have the highest consumption based CO2emissions of all - 11 tonnes per Dane per year.
It's primarily food. And let's be really honest, it's primarily meat and dairy.

Ruth_Mottram - Danskerne er det tredjerigeste folkefærd i EU og har de højeste forbrugsbaserede CO₂-udledninger af alle: 11 ton per dansker per år.
This is also why, as a #vegan/ #vegetarian based household going food shopping in #Denmark is an enraging experience.
Meat + dairy, especially the highly processed varieties are extremely cheap, and pre-packaged #plantbased equivalents are not.
We pay 25% tax on all products in DK, even food, the local co-op challenged politicians to drop 20% across all fruit and vegetables. The health gains alone would be phenomenal. Never mind the planetary gains. #ClimateCrisis#HealthyEating#CO2
Spotted some movement in our backyard when looking out a window & luckily had my zoom camera nearby so managed to snap this rather cute & healthy looking rat chomping on some greens before it quickly disappeared.😜😷🥱 #nature#photography#rodent#humor#rats#health#healthyeating
Mastodon folks were rather non-plussed by yesterday’s #vegan dinner idea. Clearly winter warming barley hotpots are not popular in the fediverse.😅
Today you are offered sumach and coriander stuffed roasted bell peppers* (with vegan mince and rice), with white-peppered sweet potato mash and tenderstem broccoli.
Okay shot in the dark but.........calling on the Fediverse - tell me what foods are good natural antihistamines. I need help. I was thinking maybe I could address some of my long covid woes through a diet change.
A simple but delicious and healthy recipe I hope everyone tries at least once:
1 med-sized avocado (120-160g)
10g nutritional yeast
1g ground salt
Some ground black pepper
Slice avocado as you would for guac and mix really well w other ingredients in a bowl. Mix until avocado is paste like or until there're chunks of the size you like. Either way make sure other ingredients are mixed in well.
I posted a version of this a few weeks back but it’s so good - and this photo is better - that the food love needs sharing again.
Harissa roasted carrots on a bed of rocket pesto and squash & chickpea hummus (both homemade), with a serene scattering of seeds, and a slice of sourdough side.
Evidently a new thing is dietician influencers on Instagram/TikTok taking money from companies that make unhealthy foods or make unproven supplements and promoting their products. One dietician says she's "pro processed food," and others are telling people it's great to eat ice cream, french fries, candy, and Diet Coke. This is a great example of why I currently dislike Instagram. Gift article: https://wapo.st/3PEQ532 #Food#HealthyEating#Influencers
