"The rise of avocados from a delicacy to an everyman’s lunch on toast has launched cottage industries in home delivery that specialize in offering perfectly ripe fruit, or unique varietals grown throughout the year." —Cathy Erway for Taste Magazine
I don't like how other places here make them. My fave place to buy is on Main St. in Vancouver Chinatown. I don't remember name of the place, know it by sight. My family bought from there since 80s & it's run by Teochew ppl from Cholon, Saigon, Vietnam. I can speak Teochew there; very few ppl speak my language in BC.
New at my Patreon... At NGV International I saw art related to the darker side of the avocado - as a tapestry told the tale of deforestation, violence, and hope:
My 1995 passive 16-gray Dell "Avocado" 486 laptop was like looking through soup. It was so low contrast and streaky.
Of course, Windows 3.1 definitely flaunted the shades of gray, harming legibility a bit.
I always head for the most vulnerable spots in the #avocado orchard as soon as the sun's up after a cold night. Sure I'll find some damage, but first impression is positive. Still 30 degrees when the pic was taken.
The cost of cheap Avocados: Illegal #deforestation in #Mexico for #avocado#cartel#crops points to a blood-soaked trade with the United States involving threats, abductions, and killings.
"The Cherán council told me that dozens of other localities in Michoacán have adopted its model of governance, forming an archipelago of radical environmental resistance. While each town has its own method of implementation, the charter remains basically the same: a democratically elected council, a militarized commitment to environmental protection, and no political parties or avocados."
"Recently, competition for control of the avocado, and of the resources needed to produce it, has grown increasingly violent, often at the hands of cartels."

A simple but delicious and healthy recipe I hope everyone tries at least once:
1 med-sized avocado (120-160g)
10g nutritional yeast
1g ground salt
Some ground black pepper
Slice avocado as you would for guac and mix really well w other ingredients in a bowl. Mix until avocado is paste like or until there're chunks of the size you like. Either way make sure other ingredients are mixed in well.
