It's been year since we haven't had a car. By not owning a car we have cause about 1.1 tons CO2e less emissions per year than the average car owner. That makes a big difference to our footprint. Also being #Vegan has helps as well. Mainly vegan for the animals. Do wish train travel in the uk would be cheaper. The downside of not having a car is not being able go far and travel to see family.
My @Flipboard magazine “Happy Cities” has been a lot of fun to post to. If you're as interested in #WalkableCities with dramatically reduced car traffic as I am, check it out!
I am also very passionate about #Engineering and #Manufacturing#Education - as such, I am working on a personal project called ManufacturingOpen which I hope to reveal soon.
I live in Downtown Detroit which helps to go #CarFree quite a bit since, for the time being, the city is cut up by highways (although there are serious plans moving forward to deal with that).
I work from home which helps quite a bit too.
Grocery shopping is a bit of trek still, as the nearest full-line grocery store is about a 1-1/2 mile walk. I do not mind it at all personally since I like the exercise.
Still, we could use a grocery store in the core downtown area.
In my academic life, I do a lot of computer modeling, and I'm a big fan of #SystemsDynamics thinking. I used to hang out with the #STS folks at Harvard, which has helped shape my thinking.
